Dar es Salaam, August 21, 2025 – Vodacom Tanzania PLC has announced impressive financial and operational results for the year ended 31 March 2025, highlighting strong growth, strategic investments, and continued delivery on its purpose of empowering individuals, protecting the environment, and building trust.
During the year, service revenue grew by 20.5% to TZS 1.5 trillion, driven by robust customer additions and strong uptake of M-Pesa and data services. Net profit after tax surged 69.4% to TZS 90.5 billion, boosted by efficiency measures that delivered TZS 59 billion in cost savings. Vodacom added 3 million new customers, closing the year with 22.6 million users.
M-Pesa remained a key growth driver, with revenue up 29.3% and transaction value expanding 33.8% year-on-year. The company also advanced financial inclusion with innovative services such as:
- M-Koba – a group savings platform now serving 1.3 million customers, over half of them women.
- M-Wekeza – a mobile wealth management solution that attracted TZS 25 billion in deposits within months of launch.
- Lipa kwa Simu – Vodacom’s digital payments platform, which processed over TZS 1 trillion in monthly transactions.
- Short-term loans and Songesha overdrafts, which disbursed over TZS 3 trillion, supporting individuals and merchants nationwide.
Meanwhile, mobile data revenue grew 21.6%, supported by a 33.4% increase in smartphone penetration and continued network investment. Vodacom deployed 471 new 4G sites, including 126 sites in underserved rural areasthrough a partnership with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF).
