Dar es Salaam, 26 August 2025 – Vodacom Tanzania has officially launched its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report under the theme “Connecting for Good: People, Planet and Possibilities.”
The report highlights how communication services are transforming lives, driving social inclusion, and fueling sustainable development across the country.
The launch event, held in Dar es Salaam, was graced by the Minister of State, President’s Office – Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, together with Vodacom Tanzania Managing Director, Philip Besiimire.
In his remarks, Prof. Mkumbo urged stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors:
“Traditionally, government is seen as the tax collector and the private sector as the taxpayer. We must look beyond this and recognize each side as a critical partner in nation-building. True collaboration should deliver positive results,” he said.
On his part, Philip Besiimire, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, emphasized the role of communication services in creating meaningful change:
“This ESG Report reflects our commitment to the people of Tanzania. Communication is not just about towers and cables; it is about creating opportunities, empowering communities, and ensuring no one is left behind,” he noted.
The report also highlights Vodacom’s investments in various innovations aimed at enabling Tanzanians to leverage digital services, expanding financial inclusion, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability, in line with Tanzania’s Vision 2050.
The launch, organized in partnership with Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), brought together stakeholders from government, private sector, and civil society to discuss issues of accountability and purpose-driven business.
