TANZANIA AND ANGOLA FORGE STRATEGIC TRADE & INVESTMENT PARTNERSHIP

President Samia Suluhu Hassan received by her host, the President of Angola, João Lourenço, shortly after arriving at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, Angola on April 8, 2025.

In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties, Tanzania and Angola have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two nations. The agreement was formalized during Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s official visit to Angola, marking a new chapter in economic cooperation.

Key Areas of Focus

The MoU outlines collaboration across several high-potential sectors:
  • 🌾 Agriculture
  • 🏭 Industry
  • 🏖️ Tourism
  • 🌊 Blue Economy
These sectors present numerous opportunities for mutual growth and are expected to benefit from enhanced investment and technology exchange.

Boosting Regional Trade Integration

Both countries committed to aligning the partnership with regional and continental trade frameworks such as:
  • The SADC Free Trade Area
  • The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
This alignment aims to create a more seamless flow of goods, services, and investments across borders, strengthening their positions in the African and global markets.

Strategic Infrastructure: The Lobito Corridor

High on the agenda was the Lobito Corridor project, a transformative transport and trade initiative that connects the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to:
  • Enhance logistics efficiency
  • Improve market access
  • Deepen regional integration

Tourism and Mobility: Visa-Free Access

In a move to promote tourism and closer people-to-people connections, Tanzania has waived visa requirements for Angolan tourists. This policy is likely to stimulate tourism and support cultural and business exchanges.

This agreement signals a promising future for Tanzania-Angola relations, with wide-ranging benefits for businesses, investors, and citizens of both countries. As regional integration efforts gain momentum, such bilateral agreements will be crucial in unlocking Africa’s full economic potential.
