TANZANIA EMBRACES DIGITAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ISSUANCE FOR SEAMLESS SERVICES

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has launched two digital platforms—the Central Motor Vehicle Registration System (CMVRS) and the Computerised Drivers' Licence System (CDLS)—to modernize vehicle registration and driver's license issuance. These systems enable citizens to apply for services online using their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), eliminating the need to visit TRA offices.

This digital transformation is part of the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS) initiative, aiming to enhance tax administration efficiency. Benefits include reduced reliance on intermediaries, shorter queues, improved data accuracy, and enhanced security in ownership verification. TRA's Manager for Taxpayer Education, Mr. Paul Walalaze, emphasized that these systems address previous challenges, making services more accessible without physical visits to TRA offices.

To utilize these services, individuals must have a TIN and an account on the TRA Taxpayer Portal. This initiative aligns with global trends toward digital identification and e-governance, reflecting Tanzania's commitment to modernizing public services.

This move is part of a broader initiative to modernize tax administration and public services in Tanzania, making processes more accessible and user-friendly for citizens.
