NMB EMPHASIZES INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR WOMEN

Kibaha: In the leadership and inclusive management training for women concluded at the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha, Coast Region, on Friday, September 27, participants were urged to make a positive impact on the lives of those they lead and to provide opportunities for them to demonstrate their abilities.

This training program, which included female leaders from public institutions, private organizations, ministries, and government departments, as well as the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) and local councils, was closed by Emmanuel Akoonay, NMB Bank’s Chief Human Resources Officer, who represented the Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Ruth Zaipuna.

Speaking at the event, Akoonay expressed his belief that the training would be a catalyst for developing better female leaders. "This training was not only about building your capacity but also about encouraging women to seize leadership opportunities in various institutions," he stated.

"With the education you have gained over this week of training, you have been equipped to tackle the challenges that hinder women's contributions to economic growth and national development. We know you are ready for your responsibilities in your institutions," he added.

Akoonay explained further, "Leadership is about guiding others to achieve what they didn’t believe was possible. Often, it is believed that as a leader, you must have a vision greater than those you lead."

"Therefore, to be a good leader, you must strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those you lead, learn to provide them with opportunities to showcase their capabilities, and enhance their existing skills. I encourage all of you to become such leaders wherever you go," he said.

He urged the women not to stop learning, noting that the training included examples and lessons from various leaders, including women who fought for freedom, leaving books and publications that continue to provide learning opportunities.

"For instance, I am directly under a female leader (Ms. Zaipuna), but in practice, I neither see nor regard her merely as a woman. She is a strong, robust, and capable leader whose voice unifies us and provides a collective vision, even in meetings dominated by men," Akoonay concluded.

Naomi Zegezege Mtemba, Chair of the Training Graduates and Deputy Director of the Europe and America Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, thanked the government for the extensive education provided.

"On behalf of the graduates, we thank the teachers and trainers of this school, and we are grateful to the Government of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the comprehensive program that enhances women's capabilities to engage at various leadership levels."

"This training has enabled us to acquire substantial knowledge, skills, and critical experience in leadership and human resource management, managing our upcoming tasks, and implementing various directives to propel the nation and community's development forward."

Ms. Kabula Igambwa, Acting Head of the Mwalimu Nyerere Leadership School, highlighted that the training addressed various areas, including Patriotism, National Interests, Security, History and Liberation Movements, Enhancing Strategic Thinking, and Leadership Principles.

She mentioned other areas, such as Improving Personal Skills of Leaders, People and Institutional Skills, Enhancing the Ability to Change Ideas, Cultivating an Inclusive Institutional Culture, Improving the Capacity to Source Financial Resources, and Efficiently Managing Institutional Projects.

"The training also offered an opportunity to improve skills in strategic institutional leadership, conflict resolution, protocol issues, making excellent decisions, and preparing for senior leadership positions," Igambwa pointed out during the ceremony.
