GEITA RESIDENTS PRAISE GGML & GEITA REFERRAL HOSPITAL FOR FREE CANCER SCREENING

Visitors to the Geita Mining and Technology Exhibition wait patiently at the Geita Referral Hospital pavilion to register for cancer screening services and receive information from medical professionals. The service, provided free of charge by the Geita Referral Hospital in collaboration with the Geita Gold Mining Company Limited (GGML), includes cervical, breast and prostate cancer screening.

The Sixth Geita Mining and Technology Exhibition has continued to benefit the residents of Geita and it's surrounding communities after the residents flocked to the EPZ Grounds, Bombambili, Geita to receive education as well as undergo cancer screening.


The service, which continues to be provided free of charge by the Geita Referral Hospital in collaboration with the Geita Gold Mining Company Limited (GGML), includes cervical, breast and prostate cancer screening.


The move has come as we head into the month of October, which is traditionally observed around the world as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Speaking to this reporter at the pavilion at the Bombambili Grounds -EPZ in Geita, one of the residents, Neema Mgase, who lives in Nyamalembo - Geita Region, apart from the services she received, advised residents of the region to take advantage of these services considering that they are free. "Women go through various challenges including childbirth and others, that's why I decided to come and get checked.

"A call to other companies is to help the Tanzanian community, many of whom have limited financial resources, to invest in services like this to improve the health of the community," she said.

Masele Athuman, a resident of Nyantorotoro A, said he was motivated to get tested for prostate cancer because at his age he is at risk of a number of cancers.

"We are grateful to GGML for helping us, the people of Geita, and now that they are the main sponsor for this exhibition, I call on other companies to partner with GGML for the development of the people of Geita.

UGANDAN MINERS LEARN INNOVATIVE TECH AT GEITA EXPO

This year's Geita Mining Technology & Exhibition has drawn a diverse range of stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Mines of the Government of Uganda. They had the opportunity to learn how Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) employs modern technology in its underground and open pit mining operations.

The visting Ugandans, headed by Morris Muheirwe Tabaaro, Inspector of Mines in the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines for Eastern Uganda, visited the GGML booth at the ongoing sixth exhibition in EPZ grounds in Bombambili, Geita, Tanzania.


Tabaaro explained that their visit was not only to share experiences but also to gain knowledge about the company's methods for mineral research and mining, both in open pit and underground ways.

Furthermore, expounding on the exposure provided, GGML's Emmanuel Njabugeni Engineer Underground, Long-Term Planning stated that this initiative demonstrates Tanzania's leadership in mining practices, following numerous well-established guidelines and even influencing the nation.

Njabugeni, with over 15 years of experience in mining activities, explained that during the exhibition they educated visitors, small miners and participants on modern technologies that help reduce mining costs and protect the environment. "We have made significant progress in technology, including the Studio UG software for underground mining, as well as other technologies that we demonstrated to our Ugandan colleagues, highlighting the benefits they can reap.

NBC BANK LAUNCHES HOME LOAN CAMPAIGN

Dar es Salaam, September 28, 2023: NBC Bank has launched a home loan campaign dubbed ‘Mkopo wa Nyumba wa NBC’ in order to improve access to better housing in Tanzania. The campaign offers Tanzanians the opportunity to access loans ranging from TZS 20 million to TZS 1 billion, with the flexibility to repay the loan gradually over a period of up to 25 years. The primary goal of the lender’s initiative is to accelerate the availability of improved housing options throughout the country.

The campaign launch event, took place in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday and was attended by various stakeholders such as the Tanzania Mortgage Refinance Company Limited (TMRC), CPS, a real estate developer in Tanzania, Nabaki Afrika Limited, retailers and wholesalers of building products and construction materials, government officials, customers, and employees of the bank. Elibariki Masuke, NBC’s Director of Retail represented the bank’s MD, Theobald Sabi.

During the event, Mr. Masuke highlighted that the campaign aims to do more than just offer Tanzanians the chance to become homeowners. It also seeks to stimulate economic growth and development within society by providing secure housing options. Furthermore, the initiative aims to bolster the commercial real estate sector within the country.

"Building homes creates employment opportunities for a wide range of individuals, from construction workers to building materials vendors. This, in turn, stimulates economic circulation through the purchase of materials and generates revenue for the government through taxes on water and electricity usage within these homes. As a result, this campaign presents vast economic opportunities across the entire construction industry value chain," he explained.

The students, some of whom study science, had the opportunity to interact with GGML staff and learn about the various aspects of mining operations including exploration, extraction, processing and environmental management, community development and safety practices.

They were also given information about career opportunities and scholarships available to young women wishing to enter the mining industry.

The visit was part of GGML's ongoing efforts to promote education and career development among young people in the Geita region, particularly girls.

JAFO URGES MINING COMPANIES TO PROTECT ENVIRONMENT

Selemani Jafo, the Minister of State and Vice President for Labour and Environment, has directed all mining companies in the country to comply with environmental procedures and laws to help Tanzania and the world deal with the climate change crisis.

He has instructed the companies to learn how Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) implements the environmental policy as it is the exemplary mining company that complies with the Environmental Protection Act.

Jafo urged this today while speaking to journalists after planting trees and visiting the stalls of the sixth Mining Technology Exhibition that is ongoing at the Bombambili-EPZ field in Geita. He said in his capacity as Minister of State Office, Vice President Union and Environment, he carefully monitors the activities of mining companies to protect the environment, especially considering that gold production also causes the presence of metals dangerous to the environment. "But of all the companies that are committed to preserving the environment, GGML is the one, so I want to encourage you to continue with the same spirit to ensure that the environment is taken care of.

NMB FLOATS FIRST SUSTAINABILITY BOND IN EAST AFRICA

Dar es Salaam, September 2023: NMB Bank Plc (NMB) is issuing a three-year sustainability bond sold at par which targets anyone who wishes to invest and earn an attractive return. The minimum purchase amount is TZS 500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Tanzanian Shillings) and can be purchased from any NMB Branch or CMSA licensed Stockbrokers.

Named the “NMB Jamii Bond”, is expected to raise TZS 75 Billion with a green shoe option of TZS 25 Billion. The proceeds of this bond will contribute to building resilience against the negative impacts of climate change, achieving sustainable infrastructure, promoting efficient and sustainable use of natural resources such as water and energy, together with supporting other essential environmental and social projects that touch Tanzanian communities. These projects include, Renewable energy, energy efficiency, pollution prevention and control, sustainable water and wastewater management, green buildings, clean transport, climate change adaptation, environmentally sustainable management of living natural resources and land use, affordable housing, access to essential services, employment generation, food security and socio-economic empowerment of women and youth.

This is the 1st Sustainability Bond to be issued in the East African region. NMB Jamii Bond continues to reinforce NMB’s commitment to advancing Tanzania’s economy socially and economically while also focusing climate and environmental issues all underlined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 13: Climate Action, just to name a few.

Investors in the NMB Jamii Bond will earn an interest rate of 9.5% per annum payable quarterly throughout the three years, until November 2026. Dr Biteko made the statement on 23 September 2023 when he visited the GGML pavilion at the sixth Geita Mining & Technology Exhibition and also during his keynote address at the opening of the exhibition held at the Geita EPZ premises in Bombambili, Geita..

He also urged the company's management to give the new Minister of Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, enough cooperation to achieve the goals he has set, especially considering that GGML is the largest gold mine in the country.

Earlier, during a visit to the GGML pavilion, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Biteko said the company has become a great partner to the government, but it's also reassuring that GGML is an active partner through its corporate social responsibility programme. "Even the Geita Regional Commissioner (Martin Shigela) has openly praised your involvement as the main sponsor of this exhibition, so we are proud of you for these activities," he said.

Dar es Salaam: September 22, 2023 - The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has reiterated its commitment to promoting business prosperity between Tanzania and South Africa by enabling businesses from both nations to expand and seize more opportunities beyond the borders following Africa Union's inclusion as a permanent member of the European Union's G20.

The commitment was highlighted by Mr. Peter Nalitolela, the Director and Head of Treasury and Markets at NBC Bank. He spoke on behalf of the bank's Managing Director, Mr. Theobald Sabi, at the South Africa Business Forum held in Dar es Salaam recently. The event was also attended by Ms. Noluthando Malepe, the South African High Commissioner to Tanzania.

Mr. Nalitolela mentioned that NBC, through its various financial services such as capital financing, securities, foreign exchange services, and the bank's latest digital payment product called 'NBC Connect', is determined to facilitate more efficient business operations for corporates from both countries. The move will enable them to competitively participate in the new global opportunity.
