Kikiwa na uwezo wa kuhudumia wananchi 14,000, mradi huo wa Maji kijulikanacho kama Nalgonda kimejipanga kufikisha maji safi na salama katika vijiji vinne vya Bassotu, Dangaida, Viendamudiga na Dilna katika kata ya Bassotu.
Akizungumza katika hafla ya uzinduzi huo, Mkurugenzi wa Mahusiano wa Kampuni ya SBL, John Wanyancha alisema, “mradi huu wa maendeleo wa Maji ya Uhai umefanywa kwa ushirikiano wa Serikali ya Tanzania na WaterAid Tanzania ili kuboresha afya, kuongeza tija kiuchumi, kuwezesha wanawake na kuwasaidia watoto wa kike kupata muda zaidi shuleni kwasababu sasa, hawahitaji tena kusafiri kwa saa nyingi kutafuta maji safi.”
Naye mgeni rasmi katika hafla hiyo, Mkuu wa Wilaya ya Hanang’, Janeth Mayanja, aliipongeza SBL kwa kuwa mstari wa mbele katika kutoa msaada kwa wakati kwenye miradi ya maendeleo ya jamii katika maeneo na sekta nyeti nchini. Alisema, ‘mradi huu ni mwokozi wa maisha kwa watu wa Bassotu, na nina imani wanakijiji watauhifadhi na kuulinda kwa ajili ya vizazi vyao vijavyo. ninataka kuwashukuru SBL kwa kujitolea kwao’.
Mkurugenzi Mkaazi wa WaterAid Anna Mzinga alisema, "tutaendelea kuja na mawazo mapya ili kupata masuluhisho ya kibunifu katika ngazi ya kitaifa na kimataifa ili kuwapatia watu maji safi na salama. Tutahakikisha kila mtu kila mahali anapata kile ambacho wengi wetu tuliokuwa mijini tunapata ambacho ni maji safi na salama’.
Kwa mujibu wa WaterAid, usambazaji wa maji kutoka ziwa Bassotu kwenda kwa jamii ulihitaji matibabu ya haraka baada ya vipimo vya maabara kubaini kuwa kiwango cha madini ya floridi kwenye maji kilikuwa juu ya Viwango vinavyopendekezwa na Shirika la Afya Duniani (WHO). Mradi huo ulioweka uwezo wa kutibu maji wa lita 900,000 kwa saa 12 unatosha kukidhi na kuzidi wastani wa mahitaji ya maji ya kila siku ya kata ya Bassotu ya lita 700,000.
Opereta aliyepata mafunzo kutoka kijijini atafanya kazi kwa kushirikiana na mafundi na wahandisi wa Usambazaji wa Maji Vijijini (RUWASA) ili kuhakikisha upatikanaji wa maji safi na salama. Uhakiki wa ubora wa maji utafanyika katika maabara mpya iliyojengwa Manyara.
Miradi hii maji inayofahamika kwa SBL kama Water of Life imeshatekeleza miradi mingine katika mikoa ya Iringa, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Tanga, Ruvuma, Dar es Salaam, Pwani, na Dodoma, na kuwapatia wanufaika zaidi ya milioni moja maji safi na salama.
SBL inataka kusaidia jamii kwa njia nne: Maji ya Uhai, Stadi za Maisha, Uendelevu wa Mazingira, na Unywaji wa Kistaarabu.
Halikadhalika katika kipindi cha miaka mitatu iliyopita, SBL pia imetoa usaidizi wa kiufundi na kifedha ambao umesaidia maisha ya wakulima 400 na jumuiya zao.
Kutokana na hali hiyo, kampuni imeweza kununua malighafi hadi tani 18,000 za mazao ya shambani kutoka kwa wakulima, hivyo kukuza mapato ya wakulima na kuchangia ukuaji wa uchumi wa taifa kupitia ulipaji wa kodi kila mara.
