EXIM BANK CONCLUDES YEAR LONG 20TH ANNIVERSARY CAMPAIGN AT MAWENI REGIONAL HOSPITAL

14th August 2018, Kigoma - Exim Bank Tanzania concluded its year long CSR campaign by donating 50 beds and mattresses to the Maweni Regional Referral Hospital, in Kigoma region. The Corporate Social campaign dubbed “20 years of taking care of the community”, which was launched in August 2017 during the banks 20th anniversary under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program called Exim Cares has invested Tsh200 million into the Tanzanian health care especially when it comes improving the healthcare delivered to women.

In Tanzania, hospitals and clinics suffer from a shortage of medicine, medical supplies and beds, particularly public referral hospitals. In an attempt to address these shortages plaguing the nation, Exim Bank Tanzania, a Tanzanian bank with an unmatched international presence, embarked on a countrywide initiative of donating 500 beds and mattresses to maternity wards at public hospitals in 13 regions across the country as part of yearlong corporate social campaign aimed at celebrating 20 years of serving the Tanzanian community.

Maweni Regional Hospital is the twelfth hospital to receive this donation after Mawenzi Regional hospital in Kilimanjaro in June, Sekou Toure Regional Hospital in Mwanza in May, Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital in Morogoro in April, Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam in March, Bombo Referral Hospital in Tanga in February, Mbeya Zonal Referral hospital in Mbeya in January, Mount Meru Regional Hospital in Arusha in December, Dodoma Referral Hospital in November, Ligula Hospital in Mtwara in October, Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar in September and Temeke Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam in August last year. The event was held at the maternity ward on the hospital grounds and was honored by the presence of the district commissioner of Uvinza in Kigoma, Mwanamvua Mrindoko, Head of Marketing and Communications of Exim Bank Tanzania, Stanley Kafu and the Director of the Hospital, Dr. Osimund Dyegura.

The hospital director, Dr. Osimund Dyegura, commended Exim Bank Tanzania for its support and urged various institutions to emulate the gesture of Exim Bank Tanzania in helping to improve the healthcare system in the country. He added, “Shortages of beds is one of the biggest challenges faced by hospitals. The donation of 50 beds and mattresses from Exim Bank will go a long way in addressing this issue”.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Stanley Kafu, Exim Bank Tanzania head of marketing and communications said, “Exim bank has always recognized the important role played by the communities surrounding our area of business and it is why CSR is a very important wing at Exim Bank. We believe that we have a huge part to play in effecting positive changes in various sectors across our communities. It is with this in mind that the Bank decided to celebrate its 20 years by giving back to the community through a campaign dubbed, ’20 years of caring for the community’ in showing how thankful we are. Even though the campaign has ended Exim Bank will continue embarking on different initiatives targeting the health care system across the country.”

The bank, which was recognized as Tanzania’s Best Overall Local Employer in 2017, is celebrating 20 years of success, growth and pioneering into new markets across the continent. Exim Bank (Tanzania) Limited was established in 1997 and expanded its market by opening subsidiaries in Comoros (2007), Djibouti (2011) and Uganda (2016).
