VODACOM customers will have an additional charge of 1.1 per cent on their LUKU unit purchase via M-Pesa after the migration of LUKU sales into the Government E-Payment Gateway (GePG). Vodacom said in a statement that incremental service had been negotiated by government to be passed on to the consumer during the migration.
"Customers can expect an additional charge of 1.1 per cent on their LUKU unit purchases via M-Pesa as a result of this movement," it said in the statement that sought to counter rumours that it has suspended LUKU unit purchases through M-Pesa.
Vodacom said its customers could still purchase LUKU units via M-Pesa platform just before the migration to the new system. "The new system has made it possible for the utility company to link its sales from various platforms including other phone companies and banks directly to GePG in line with government aspirations."
