EXIM BANK TANZANIA SCOOPS BEST RETAIL BANK OF THE YEAR AWARD


Dar es Salaam - Exim Bank Tanzania has been recognized as the Best Retail Bank in Tanzania during the Banker Africa Awards, East Africa 2017 held in Nairobi Kenya.

The Banker Africa Awards, East Africa, are geared towards promoting excellence in East Africa's financial sector. Through a poll of a stunning 77,000 votes cast by the financial services community across East Africa, Exim Bank Tanzania was selected as this year’s Best Retail Bank.

Speaking on behalf of the Bank, Exim’s Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Selemani Ponda said, “We are honoured and humbled by this recognition. We have over the years worked purposely to develop strong foundations that support the best possible future of our operations. The results are clear; over the past few years our customer deposits have increased along with the number of customers. In addition to this, the Bank's Profit After Tax [PAT] has been growing at a healthy rate to reach a high of Tsh 72.41 Bn in 2016.”

Mr. Ponda who attended the award giving occasion commended the organizers for staging a yet another successful event for four years in a row which has drawn a participation from huge number of banking professionals in the region. Further, he added that key vendors including technology companies which play key role in industry transformation were recognized as well for their excellency.

Mr. Rahul Singh, Head of Retail Banking highlighted the role of innovation in making Exim Bank one of best banks in Tanzania, respected for its excellent service delivery and operating on an advanced banking technology platform. “Innovation is a promise we give our customers and clients. The Bank has had significant breakthrough innovations through the deployment of world class technology and customer focused products”, he added.

Exim bank has taken many intiatives under Retail Banking including first of a kind service called “Preferred Banking” which allows custoemrs access to a dedicated Relationship Manager, Exclusive treatment at branches, Preferential pricing on products and Exclusive Lifestyle Benefits. Exim Bank was the first bank in the country to introduce credit cards with the launch of International Debit MasterCard, Visa Platinum cards, TANAPA debit cards and Visa credit cards. The Bank also pioneered mobile ATM facility solutions and an exclusive financing scheme for women in Tanzania.

Exim Bank’s pioneering efforts also stretch across boundaries. In the year 2007, Exim became the first Tanzanian Bank to establish its foot prints overseas in the Union of Comoros. Exim Bank also spread its wings further into Djibouti to establish yet another subsidiary in March 2011, affording a strategic link to landlocked countries in the Horn of Africa. In 2016, the Bank expanded its regional footprint with 5 branches in Uganda.

Mr Singh concluded by recognizing the entire Exim Bank team, especially the client facing team at Exim branches for all their hard work and commitment. He also thanked all customers of Exim Bank who have patronised us and helped us achieve this success by giving their business to us. The Bank commits to continually strive to enhance its capabilities by bolstering its infrastructure, enhancing customer service and centralizing key processes in order to provide the highest caliber of service to its clients.
