WILLIE LATEGAN TO LEAVE BARCLAYS AFRICA AFTER 20 YEARS WITH THE GROUP

Willie Lategan.
JOHANNESBURG – Willie Lategan, chief executive of wealth, investment management and insurance (WIMI) at Barclays Africa will leave the group at the end of September after 20 years of service, the banking firm said on Tuesday.

“This step follows very careful consideration of my personal and professional goals,” Lategan said in a statement. “I have enjoyed working at Absa and Barclays Africa and will always treasure the many good memories from my years in the organisation,” he said.

Lategan joined Absa as an actuary in 1995, serving in managerial positions in Absa Life and Financial Services. He was appointed to the executive committee in 2007.

“The Executive Committee of Barclays Africa Group and I would like to thank Willie for the significant contribution that he has made to the Group as a member of our Exco and for his relentless commitment to transforming WIMI into the solid franchise that it is today,” said Barclays Africa group chief executive, Maria Ramos. “Willie has played a key role in leading the Pan African expansion of WIMI and his loyalty and leadership will be sorely missed,” Ramos said.

“An announcement about Willie’s successor will be made in due course. To support a smooth transition, Willie will remain with the group for the next three months,” Barclays Africa said.
