AIR TANZANIA INCREASES FLIGHTS TO COMOROS

Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has announced it will increase the number of flights to the Comoros, following increased demand for services of the national carrier, especially during the forthcoming holy month of Ramadhan.

ATCL is now set effective Monday, to operate eight flights weekly from the current five that includes two on Thursdays. Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam.

The ATCL Acting Managing Director, Mr Johnson Mfinanga, said the move emerged as the company noticed considerable increase in demand.

He said the firm also wants to exploit opportunities that come along during the holy season and various business ventures. “We have been ensuring that we adapt to our customers’ needs.

It is obvious that during this season of the year there is a huge demand of air transport to Comoros for business, vacation and various ceremonies.

“With this demand, we are confident that the increase in flight frequency will help Air Tanzania to tap into potential travellers to Comoros,” said Mr Mfinanga.

Talking of the other routes that are currently being operated by the flag carrier he said that, the expected increase in the number of passengers flying by Air Tanzania is influenced by the fact that their aircraft’s flying time is much shorter, compared to other machines.

“We believe that our services also help in improving bilateral relations between the two countries.

The flight frequency will also increase trade volume between the two countries and provide a gateway for passengers from Comoros connecting to further destinations through Dar es Salaam,” he said.

Speaking of the company’s expansion plan, Mr Mfinanga said; “Our precious aircraft De-Havilland Dash 8 Q300 is currently undergoing major maintenances at Air Tanzania maintenance facility ‘Hangar’ at JNIA by the local ATCL staff.

Once completed, it will re-establish our traditional routes to Mwanza, Tabora, Kilimanjaro and Mbeya,”.

Mr Mfinanga was optimistic that there are huge trade opportunities that could be realised with the company’s services to the Isles, calling on Tanzanians to grab and exploit such opportunities.
