Dar es Salaam, March 5, 2026 – NMB Bank Plc has partnered with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) to launch a Digital Bank Guarantee Confirmation service, a major step aimed at modernising Tanzania’s public procurement processes through technology.

She explained that the digital service will simplify the process of submitting and verifying bank guarantees required in public procurement.

Traditionally, the verification of bank guarantees relied heavily on paper-based processes that often resulted in delays, administrative burdens, and risks such as document loss or fraud.

“With the launch of the Digital Bank Guarantee Confirmation service, processes that previously took several days can now be completed almost instantly,” said Zaipuna.

Through the integrated system, NMB will verify both the bank guarantee and the bidder’s account in real time and provide immediate confirmation through the NeST platform.

The new financial solutions are designed particularly for families working in the informal sector, enabling them to build, improve, or expand their homes affordably.

Supporting Low-Income Families to Access Housing Finance

The launch follows a successful pilot programme implemented with National Bank of Commerce Tanzania and FINCA Microfinance Bank Tanzania, along with regulatory approval from the Bank of Tanzania allowing TMRC to refinance housing microfinance portfolios.

This milestone enables financial institutions to sustainably provide housing loans tailored to underserved households, particularly those who cannot qualify for traditional mortgage financing.

Partnership Driving Innovation in Housing Finance

The initiative stems from a partnership between TMRC and Habitat for Humanity that began in August 2022. The collaboration aims to transform Tanzania’s affordable housing finance landscape through:

• Development of innovative housing finance products

STANDARD CHARTERED–BACKED WAZO BORA PITCH AWARDS TZS 17M SEED FUNDING TO ENTREPRENEURS

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – 4 March 2026 – The Wazo Bora Pitch initiative has successfully concluded after awarding TZS 17 million in seed funding to promising entrepreneurs, marking the culmination of a transformative innovation and business development program.

The initiative follows the recent announcement that Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania donated USD 11,500 to Challenges Worldwide Tanzania to support entrepreneurial growth as part of the Standard Chartered Foundation’s RISE/E program.

From Idea to Investment

The Wazo Bora Pitch program began in December 2025 with a month-long call for applications that attracted a strong pool of aspiring entrepreneurs from diverse sectors.

After the application phase, 15 participants were selected to join an intensive business bootcamp aimed at strengthening their entrepreneurial capacity. 

The program focused on:

• Refining business models
• Improving financial management skills
• Enhancing investment readiness

Following the training, seven finalists were shortlisted to compete in the final pitch event held in Dar es Salaam this week.

Winners of the Wazo Bora Pitch

At the conclusion of the competition, three outstanding entrepreneurs received seed funding to support the growth of their businesses:

• Winner: Ng’oga Masheri Kaswahili – TZS 10,000,000
• First Runner-Up: Mohamed Muhidini – TZS 4,000,000
• Second Runner-Up: Nipaeii Mtana – TZS 3,000,000

The total TZS 17,000,000 in seed funding will directly support business expansion, job creation, and market growth for the winning enterprises.

Part of a Larger Entrepreneurship Program

The Wazo Bora Pitch forms part of the broader RISE/E Program, launched in 2024 through the Standard Chartered Foundation.

The three-year program valued at TZS 2.2 billion aims to:

DAR ES SALAAM STOCK EXCHANGE RECORDS 80.8% SURGE IN MARKET CAPITALISATION

Dar es Salaam – The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) has reported a sharp rise in market capitalisation and trading activity in the year to February 2026, reflecting renewed investor confidence and growing participation in Tanzania’s capital markets.

Total market capitalisation climbed to TSh 34.6 trillion between January and February 2026, up from TSh 19.1 trillion recorded during the same period last year. This marks an impressive 80.8 percent year-on-year growth, signalling strong price appreciation and sustained demand for listed equities.

Investor Confidence Driving Growth

Speaking during a media briefing in Dar es Salaam, DSE Chief Executive Officer Peter Nalitolela attributed the performance to continued trust among local investors and growing awareness of the benefits of investing through the stock market.

“This is an indication that Tanzanians continue to have confidence in the market, and shares are being traded frequently, which explains such a significant increase,” Mr Nalitolela said.

Domestic Segment Posts Strong Gains

The domestic segment, comprising 22 Tanzanian companies, also delivered robust growth. Market capitalisation in this segment rose to TSh 24.4 trillion at the end of February 2026, up from TSh 12.7 trillion a year earlier — representing an average growth of approximately 90 percent.

Despite the strong performance, the total number of listed companies remains unchanged at 28, including 22 domestic firms and six foreign companies.
