DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – August 6, 2026 – Absa Bank Tanzania has unveiled Absa Lipa Sasa, a new TanQR-powered digital payment solution that enables businesses to accept payments from customers across multiple banks and mobile money platforms using a single QR code.
The launch marks another milestone in Tanzania's journey towards a cash-lite economy, supporting the Government's financial inclusion agenda while providing merchants with a faster, safer and more cost-effective way to receive digital payments.
Built on Tanzania's national QR code standard under the guidance of the Bank of Tanzania, Absa Lipa Sasa simplifies payment acceptance by eliminating the need for multiple payment devices or separate QR codes. Through a single interoperable QR code, merchants can receive payments from customers regardless of the bank or mobile wallet they use.
Speaking during the launch, Victor Nchimbi, Head of Commercial at Absa Bank Tanzania, said the solution has been developed to make digital payments more accessible and convenient for businesses of all sizes.
"Absa Lipa Sasa is designed to make payments easier, faster and more convenient for businesses and their customers. With a single QR code, merchants can accept payments from customers across multiple banks and mobile wallets, eliminating the need for multiple devices or payment solutions.
This reduces the cost and complexity of doing business while enabling faster transaction processing, improved record-keeping and enhanced security. For customers, it provides a seamless and reliable payment experience that supports the growing adoption of digital payments across Tanzania," he said.
Supporting Tanzania's Digital Economy
The new payment solution aligns with Tanzania's national efforts to expand financial inclusion and accelerate digital transformation by promoting interoperable payment systems.
Using TanQR technology, Absa Lipa Sasa enables merchants to accept payments instantly through a single platform while reducing dependence on cash and simplifying day-to-day business operations.
According to Nchimbi, merchants benefit from immediate payment confirmations, lower transaction costs and improved transparency in financial transactions.
He noted that the platform is particularly beneficial for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), helping them operate more efficiently while improving record-keeping and strengthening business credibility.
The solution is also designed to serve informal traders and larger businesses seeking secure, convenient and efficient payment options.
Empowering Businesses to Grow
Absa Bank Tanzania says the launch reflects its continued investment in digital innovation aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and businesses across the country.
Speaking at the event, Beda Biswalo, Marketing & Communications Manager at Absa Bank Tanzania, said the new solution embodies the bank's customer-first philosophy.
"At Absa, we believe that 'Your Story Matters' because every customer, entrepreneur and business has ambitions worth supporting. Absa Lipa Sasa reflects our commitment to helping our customers grow through simple, secure and accessible payment solutions that respond to their everyday needs. This is how we bring our purpose, 'Empowering Africa's tomorrow, together... one story at a time,' to life, creating meaningful impact while advancing financial inclusion and digital transformation across Tanzania," he said.
Beyond simplifying payments, Absa Lipa Sasa enables merchants to reduce the risks associated with cash handling, reach more customers and build digital transaction histories that could improve access to future financial services.
A Key Step in Absa's Digital Transformation
The launch of Absa Lipa Sasa reinforces Absa Bank Tanzania's broader digital transformation strategy and its commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions that promote economic growth and financial inclusion.
The solution is now available to merchants nationwide, with businesses able to register through any Absa Bank Tanzania branch or their Absa relationship manager.
As digital payments continue to gain momentum across Tanzania, Absa Lipa Sasa positions the bank as a key player in advancing secure, interoperable and inclusive payment ecosystems for businesses and consumers alike.
