INSIDE BOLT’S CONTINUED DOMINANCE IN TANZANIA

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – May 20, 2026 – In Tanzania’s rapidly evolving digital mobility sector, Bolt is increasingly positioning itself as more than just a ride-hailing platform. The company’s latest leadership messaging highlights a broader ambition: becoming an essential part of the country’s economic infrastructure by connecting mobility, entrepreneurship, and income generation.

A Different Kind of Interview Setting

Rather than choosing a corporate office or conference venue, Bolt East Africa Senior General Manager, Dimmy Kanyankole sat down for a one-on-one interview with former BBC anchor, Salim Kikeke inside a small boutique owned by a young female entrepreneur in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam.

The location itself carried a symbolic message. By conducting the interview inside an SME-operated business, Bolt reinforced its position that mobility extends beyond transportation — serving as a key enabler of economic activity for entrepreneurs, workers, and urban communities.

According to Kanyankole, when people and goods move reliably and affordably, small businesses gain customers, workers access more opportunities, and cities function more efficiently.

Tanzania Emerging as a Key Growth Market

Kanyankole revealed that Tanzania has become one of Bolt’s standout markets globally, driven by growing demand for accessible and technology-enabled transport solutions.

Bolt operates in over 50 countries globally, and in 2025 Tanzania emerged as one of our fastest-growing markets in Africa — second globally only to Switzerland,” he said.

The company’s expansion has been largely powered by its growing driver-partner network, with more than 30,000 Tanzanian drivers currently using the platform as a source of daily income.

This, according to Bolt, makes sustainability more than a corporate objective — turning it into a livelihoods issue that directly impacts thousands of families across the country.

Recognition at Africa Transportation Excellence Awards 2026

Bolt Tanzania’s market momentum was further highlighted earlier this month during the Africa Transportation Excellence Awards Night 2026 held in Dar es Salaam, where the company was named Best Urban Mobility & Ride-Hailing Company of the Year.

Speaking during the awards ceremony, Kanyankole credited government institutions and regulators for supporting structured innovation and sustainable growth within Tanzania’s transport ecosystem.

He noted that long-term success in digital mobility depends on collaboration between policymakers and private sector players.

The recognition, he added, belongs equally to Bolt’s drivers and riders, whom he described as the backbone of Tanzania’s fast-growing digital mobility economy.

Fare Adjustments and Driver Welfare

The recognition comes at a time when Tanzania’s ride-hailing sector is facing increasing operational costs, particularly rising fuel prices.

Bolt recently implemented fare adjustments in compliance with gazetted regulations issued by LATRA. The changes were introduced to help cushion drivers from fuel price increases that have reportedly doubled since March 2026.

The move reflects the company’s continued focus on balancing affordability for riders with sustainable earnings for drivers.

Beyond Ride-Hailing

As competition intensifies within East Africa’s digital transport industry, Bolt’s strategy in Tanzania appears increasingly centered on long-term ecosystem development rather than short-term growth alone.

By linking mobility with entrepreneurship, employment, and urban accessibility, the company is positioning itself not only as a transportation platform, but also as a contributor to Tanzania’s broader economic transformation.
