BOLT CROWNED BEST URBAN MOBILITY & RIDE-HAILING COMPANY AT AFRICA TRANSPORTATION EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Dar es Salaam, April 29, 2026 — Digital mobility platform Bolt Tanzania has been named Best Urban Mobility & Ride-Hailing Company of the Year at the prestigious Africa Transportation Excellence Awards 2026, cementing its position as a key driver of innovation in the country’s fast-evolving transport ecosystem.

The award was presented during a high-profile ceremony held at the iconic Serena Hotel Dar es Salaam, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators shaping Africa’s mobility future.

A Recognition of Tanzania’s Digital Mobility Momentum

Receiving the award, Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for East Africa at Bolt, described the recognition as more than a corporate milestone — but a reflection of Tanzania’s accelerating shift toward smart, inclusive mobility solutions.

Bolt operates in over 50 countries globally, and in 2025 Tanzania emerged as one of our fastest-growing markets in Africa — second globally only to Switzerland,” he noted. “This growth highlights the rising demand for accessible, technology-driven transport options.”

Driving Inclusion Through Innovation

A major factor behind Bolt’s success in Tanzania has been its early adoption of localized mobility solutions. The company became the first ride-hailing platform in the country to integrate two-wheelers (boda boda) and three-wheelers (bajajis) into its digital ecosystem — a move that significantly expanded access to affordable transport services for millions, particularly within mid- and low-income communities.

This approach has not only improved urban connectivity but has also played a meaningful role in formalizing segments of the informal transport sector.

Enabling Environment and Strategic Partnerships

Kanyankole also acknowledged the critical role played by government institutions and regulators in fostering a supportive environment for innovation.

We sincerely appreciate the Ministry of Transport for cultivating a conducive environment for mobility investors,” he said. “Sustainable innovation thrives where policy and enterprise move together.”

Powered by People: Drivers and Riders at the Core

In a heartfelt tribute, the award was dedicated to Bolt’s driver community — the backbone of its operations.

This achievement belongs to the thousands of Tanzanian drivers who power the ecosystem daily, and the riders who continue to trust digital mobility,” Kanyankole emphasized.

Looking Ahead

With this recognition, Bolt Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening investment, advancing innovation, and strengthening partnerships to support the continued growth of Tanzania’s formal mobility ecosystem.

As urbanization accelerates and demand for efficient transport rises, Bolt’s model of blending technology with inclusive access positions it as a pivotal player in shaping the future of mobility — not just in Tanzania, but across Africa.
