STANDARD CHARTERED TANZANIA DONATES USD 11,500 TO FUEL ENTREPRENEURIAL GROWTH

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — Standard Chartered Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to driving inclusive economic growth by donating USD 11,500 to Challenges Worldwide Tanzania, a key implementing partner of the Standard Chartered Foundation’s RISE/E programme.

The funding is aimed at strengthening the skills and capacity of local entrepreneurs, with a strong emphasis on persons with disabilities, through an initiative known as the Wazo Bora Pitch.

Applications for the Wazo Bora Pitch programme opened in December, with the selection of participants completed in early January. Last week, selected entrepreneurs participated in an intensive one-week bootcamp designed and delivered by Challenges Worldwide Tanzania. The training focused on refining business models, strengthening financial literacy, and improving pitching skills.

Following the bootcamp, participants will present their business ideas before a panel of judges. The top three winners—first, second, and third place—will receive seed capital to help scale and grow their ventures.

The initiative forms part of Standard Chartered Tanzania’s broader commitment to entrepreneurship development under the RISE/E initiative, a TZS 2.2 billion, three-year programme launched in 2024 through the Standard Chartered Foundation. The programme aims to directly support 340 microbusinesses and create 478 new jobs across Tanzania.

Commenting on the initiative, a representative from Standard Chartered Tanzania said the Bank continues to work closely with strategic partners to deliver meaningful impact within communities.

“We are continually working with vital partners like Challenges Worldwide to make a difference that truly matters within our communities. This latest donation ensures we are fostering sustainable economic empowerment by equipping local entrepreneurs with the capital and skills they need to succeed,” the representative said.
