- Stanbic demonstrates proven experience in complex instruments and partnerships with major national issuers
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Friday, 23 January 2026:
Stanbic Bank Tanzania has reaffirmed its growing influence in the country’s capital markets after successfully supporting CRDB Bank’s latest Al Barakah Sukuk issuance as Co-Lead Arranger. The transaction further strengthens Tanzania’s Islamic finance and structured products landscape while underscoring Stanbic’s deep expertise in debt capital markets.
The Al Barakah Sukuk represents the third tranche that Stanbic has arranged for CRDB Bank, reflecting a long-standing partnership built on technical depth, disciplined structuring, and strong investor engagement. Through this issuance, CRDB Bank continues to expand Shariah-compliant investment opportunities, attracting both retail and institutional investors seeking ethical, asset-backed instruments.
Strengthening Tanzania’s Capital Markets
Stanbic Bank played a central role in providing structuring support throughout the transaction, leveraging its regional experience and execution capability to ensure a successful outcome. The Sukuk issuance demonstrates how close collaboration between issuers, arrangers, and regulators can support the continued growth and sophistication of Tanzania’s financial ecosystem.
Speaking on the transaction, Sarah Mkiramweni, Senior Vice President – Debt Capital Markets & Syndication for East Africa, said the successful execution illustrates the impact of strong partnerships in a maturing market. She emphasized Stanbic’s commitment to advancing ethical and asset-backed financial instruments that strengthen Tanzania’s capital markets and broaden investment choices for the public.
As Tanzania prepares for the introduction of a national Islamic finance governance framework, arranger capability is becoming increasingly important. With more than 30 years of presence in Tanzania and a broad African footprint, Stanbic Bank continues to support issuers seeking to raise capital through well-structured and well-governed financial instruments.
Growing Investor Confidence in Structured Products
Also commenting on the transaction, Ester Manase, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Stanbic Bank Tanzania, said the success of the CRDB Bank Al Barakah Sukuk reflects growing investor confidence in structured financial products. She highlighted the importance of strong advisory services, robust documentation, and effective investor mobilisation in delivering successful capital market transactions.
Stanbic’s arranger capability extends beyond the Al Barakah Sukuk programme. In recent years, the Bank has served as Co-Lead Arranger for CRDB’s Samia Infrastructure Bond, Lead Arranger for CRDB’s Kijani (Green) Bond, Lead Arranger for an NMB Bank bond listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, and Co-Mandated Lead Arranger, alongside the People’s Bank of Zanzibar, for a major syndicated loan supporting the development agenda of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
Supporting Long-Term Economic Development
Through these transactions, Stanbic Bank continues to play a vital role in deepening Tanzania’s capital markets, enabling issuers to access innovative and sustainable financing solutions. The Bank believes that well-structured instruments, supported by capable arrangers, contribute meaningfully to financial stability and long-term economic development.
The successful CRDB Bank Al Barakah Sukuk issuance once again signals the growing appetite for Islamic finance and structured investments in Tanzania, reinforcing positive momentum in the evolution of the country’s capital markets.
