Dar es Salaam, January 10, 2026

The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has been recognized as the Best Employer in the Internship Program, an award conferred by the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations (PMO-LEIR) through its Employment Services Division. The accolade underscores NBC Bank’s outstanding commitment to nurturing young talent by providing structured internship opportunities and absorbing graduates from various universities into permanent employment.

The award was presented in Dar es Salaam during the Employers’ Conference on the Implementation of the Work Experience (Internship) Program. It was officially handed over by the Deputy Minister, Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Hon. Rahma Kisuo (MP). The conference brought together senior government leaders, including the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ms. Zuhura Yunus, senior officials from PMO-LEIR, and representatives from multiple institutions.

NBC Bank was represented at the event by a delegation led by the Acting Head of Human Resources, Ms. Grace Mgondah.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ms. Mgondah said the recognition reflects NBC Bank’s sustained and successful implementation of the internship (work-experience) program. She revealed that over the past five years, the Bank has provided permanent employment to approximately 136 graduates who initially joined NBC through the internship pathway.

Each year, between 800,000 and 1.2 million graduates complete their studies and enter the job market in Tanzania. One of the major challenges they face is limited practical skills and professional exposure,” she said. “Our internship program plays a vital role in bridging this gap by equipping graduates with hands-on experience, essential workplace skills, strong work ethics, and a positive professional mindset.”

Ms. Mgondah further noted that NBC Bank’s impact extends beyond its own workforce. Many graduates who have passed through the Bank’s internship program have gone on to secure employment in other organizations, where they continue to demonstrate strong performance and professionalism.

On behalf of NBC Bank, she reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Government to further expand the internship program and reach a wider pool of graduates across the country.

I encourage all graduates to register on the PMO-LEIR employment system so they can be connected to available opportunities offered by employers,” she added, pointing graduates to the official registration platform at jobs.kazi.go.tz.

The award cements NBC Bank’s position as a leading employer committed to youth development, skills transfer, and sustainable workforce growth in Tanzania.
