Andrew Mazula, from the Human Resources Department at GGML, shares his professional experience with students of Geita Boys' Secondary School. |
The special session was conducted by GGML employees from various departments within the company, with the majority being members of the GGM Ladies group. We are thrilled to share that this event was held as part of the 2024 International Women's Month commemorations!
Laila Mohamed, Senior Travel and Events Supervisor from the Human Resources Department at GGML, advised students to make independent decisions when choosing which subjects to study in order to achieve their academic goals.
She stressed the significance of choosing subjects based on personal interests and career aspirations rather than following the crowd. For those transitioning from Form 2 to Form 3 and Form 4 to Form 5, she advised utilizing this crucial time for self-evaluation and reflection to make wise decisions about which subjects to take, enabling them to achieve their goals.
Many students struggle with not having an advisor or someone to seek advice from when they reach important crossroads in their academic lives. The mentors from GGML were there to answer any questions and offer guidance to students.
Joscar Rumanyika, an accountant at GGML, advised students that their academic journey should be guided by integrity.
She emphasized that there are no shortcuts to achieving academic success and encouraged them to be assertive and believe in themselves. According to her, anything is possible if they want to succeed in their studies.
During the sessions, students were encouraged to ask questions. Leonard Martin and Daniel Stanslaus, students from Geita Boys, mentioned that having the mentors speak to them was inspiring and motivating, pushing them to set lofty goals, they also emphasized that education is crucial in preparing for a successful future.
Terry Strong, Senior Vice President - Africa Business Unit at AngloGold Ashanti (of which Geita Gold Mining Limited is a subsidiary), stated that the mentorship program aligns with the company's objective to invest in future generations. Investing in students is an investment in the future of the Geita community.
