ACOYA is an excellent platform for all companies, regardless of size and business operations, to showcase their success and share their journey with the world. The main objective of the ACOYA Awards was to promote business excellence and create a platform for captains of the industry to network.
The Africa Company of the Year Awards begun preparations early this year where the CEO of Eastern Star, Mr Deogratius Kilawe travelled to other countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Togo to introduce the concept of the Award ceremony. It was very well received and as a result we are proud to have over 750 companies from over 15 countries that applied to participate. The participants applied directly through the website. After further review and desk analysis, the list was sieved to 200 companies and 189 companies visited by our Assessors.
Participants were categorised based on revenue size and sectors. Most participants were large and medium, but it was also encouraging to see small companies in the process. The minimum threshold score for recognition/award was 6.0 on a scale of 1-10. Overall, 56% of the participants scored an index of 6.0 and above.
There are 20 sectors/categories (Winner/ 1st Runners Up/2nd Runners Up). The winners were recognised per category, determinants and overall. Companies shortlisted as overall winners must have been assessed in all the six determinants. Some companies only had 1-3 determinants. They are encouraged to apply for more determinants in the coming year.
The Founder and Chairman of Eastern Star Consulting Group, Mr. Deogratius Kalawe said “It has been our dream to organize business awards event that recognises African excellence. Hence, we travelled to countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Togo to introduce this concept of the Africa Company of the Year awards. We were happy to see that it was warmly received, and companies registered almost immediately. As a result, we have over 750 companies that registered directly by filling in the google forms.
“Our vision for 2023 was the inaugural year of the Africa Company of the Year but our bigger dream is to make it a truly continental event by having all African Countries represented.” He added.
One of the winners, the elated Mr. Imran Karmali, CEO of GF Truck & Equipment Ltd expressed gratitude to Eastern Star Consulting Group for the recognition and dedicated the award to the skilled and hardworking team at GF Truck & Equipment. "Winning the Africa Company of the Year Award is a significant milestone for us. We are motivated to continue pushing boundaries of innovation and strive for excellence, not only in the automotive industry but also in every activity we undertake," Imran remarked.
In addition to GF Truck & Equipment Ltd's success, their sister company, GF Trucks was recognized for its outstanding performance in a separate category.
GF Truck & Equipment Limited was awarded as Trucks & Equipment Distributor of the Year.
