ABSA LAUNCHES "EMPOWERING AFRICA'S TOMORROW, TOGETHER-ONE STORY AT A TIME"

Absa Bank Tanzania Managing Director, Obedi Laiser (right), addresses the bank's employees during a function to launch Absa's new purpose dubbed 'empowering Africa's tomorrow, together-one story at a time' at an occasion in Dar es Salaam recently.


Absa has launches a new purpose dubbed “Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together-one story at a time to help the continent to overcome its social economic challenges.

Speaking with bank’s employees from different parts of the country in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, Absa Bank Tanzania, Managing Director Obedi Laiser said that as a financial institution, they have seen that it is good for them to come up with business strategies that match with main purpose of the bank and the reason of its existing in Tanzania and Africa.

"Our main purpose is together to empower Africa tomorrow step by step, the meaning is that whatever we do, and all our strategies that we want to implement its main basis is to empower the continent of Africa together step by step.

"As an Absa institution, we want to work with all the stakeholders that are in our continent step by step, to enable the employees we work with, the traders, our customers, but also the community we do business with, the village, district, the region and the country we do business with to ensure that all we get positive results.

"Absa Bank Tanzania as part of the African continent has a great responsibility to carry out this great role in implementing that purpose to enable Tanzania to take steps placing more emphasis on the future of Tanzania, the youth of Tanzania and the future of Tanzania in the banking services we provide, the loans we provide to make sure we enable Africa to make progress in the future", says Mr. Laiser.

He said that in order to achieve that they will collaborate with all stakeholders to empower one person to another, "we build one brick after brick but creating a masterpiece at the end of the day, whether that masterpiece is small or big.

"Today we are launching this purpose but also we want to include it in our strategy because is a business issue, but our main purpose is not make profit and to foster business alone but when all these changes are making step further should go parallel with our employees , our customers and the community at large,”

Regarding empowering the business community, Mr. Laiser commended the sixth phase government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan for opening up opportunities and creating a conducive environment for business people to run their businesses in the country.

"The government has shown the way, we as private sector and stakeholders support these efforts implemented by government by empowering our employees, our customers, And Absa has launched a very specialized service for small, medium and large businesses that enable them to do their business smooth including digital payment systems.

"When we say we are empowering Africa, we are empowering small, medium and large businesses by enabling them to make payments in a simple and fast ways, as much as just pressing a button, to get loans which will foster their businesses and be able to contribute to the national income", he adds.

Regarding empowering the community, Mr. Laiser says as part and parcel of the bank goals as it’s recently sponsored a sports festival that involved Samatta and Artist Ali Kiba where the money which was raised helped to buy medical equipment’s for pre-mature babies in Kibiti Hospitals in Lindi and Kasulu in Kigoma regions.

"We want to take Tanzania forward, if Tanzania goes forward, Africa will go forward, if Africa goes forward we will have put it on a different platform than where it is now", says Mr. Laiser.
