ROSTAM AZIZ APPEALS FOR AfDB FUNDING TO AGRICULTURE

President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina (left) shakes hands with Tanzanian business tycoon, Rostam Aziz in Washington DC after holding talks on agriculture development.

A local business mogul, Rostam Aziz has advised the African Development Bank (AfDB) to shore up financing to the agricultural sector so as to help Tanzania to become a major food exporting country.

He told the bank's president, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina during a meeting in Washington that Tanzania had a considerable potential to produce both food and cash crops for its domestic consumption as well as for export, but more investments were required to enhance productivity.

"Tanzania has a huge potential to produce food and cash crops for itself and the world. However, it is high time we stop singing about the potential and do actual investment in agriculture and its value chain", said Mr. Azizi who is visiting the United States as part of President Samia Suluhu Hassan's delegation.
