- Airtel Money Customers and Wakala to enjoy interest payment
Interest disbursement is money given back to Airtel Money customers on a quarterly basis based on the balance amount they have in their Airtel Money Wallets/accounts at the end of each day. The amount earned by customers depend on how frequently they use the Airtel Money service account. The money earned as interest is sent to customers via Airtel Money wallet/ account and a customer can choose to withdraw money from our robust AM Agent network, transfer to Airtel Money savings account or pay bills such as DAWASCO, LUKU to mention a few.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam while announcing the interest disbursement to Airtel Money customers, Airtel Money Director, Isack Nchunda said that the Interest earned will be distributed to all Airtel Money customers and Agents across the country who have used Airtel Money services for the last 12 months.
“Our aim is to continue to support the Government Agenda in promoting financial inclusion, today we are distributing approximately TZS 2.5 bn accrued interest for the September 2018 to March 2019 quarters. We are happy with the growth pace of our Airtel Money customers as we continue to see a double digit growth,” said Nchunda.
Nchunda added that this is the eighth time Airtel is giving back interest to all Airtel Money customers and agents since 2015. So far a total of TZS 19 bn has been distributed to customers and agents countrywide.
“We are happy that in addition to customers interest distribution, our over 60,000 Airtel Money Agents county wide will also receive their interests through their Airtel Money wallets/accounts. We call upon our Agents to continue offering the best services to our customers countrywide and earn Airtel Money dividends quarterly while doing business. Explained Nchunda
On his part, Airtel Tanzania Corporate Communications Manager Jackson Mmbando said “Airtel is committed in improving and bringing Airtel Money services closer to our customers and address the gap of unbanked population across the country. In promoting financial inclusion, Airtel recently launched “Tuko Nawe Kila Kona” campaign with the rollout of Airtel Money Branches, one of the largest mobile money distribution set-ups in the country that has over 1,000 Airtel Money Branches offering an array of Airtel services and products to meet the current customer’s demands.
Airtel will continue to widen its agent’s footprint to ensure mobile money services are available to the majority of the Tanzanian in both rural and urban areas.
“To serve our growing customer base with Airtel Money services, through Airtel Money we have also integrated our systems with various payment platforms such as e-government where customers can make several Government payments at a go. Airtel Money is also connected to over 40 banks in the country which make it possible for customers to do instant money transfers from their Bank accounts to their Airtel Money wallets anywhere any time at the comfort of their homes and enjoy sending Money FREE to Airtel customers” Explained Mmbando.
