SOUTH AFRICA'S ABSA CEO TO RETIRE AT END OF FEBRUARY
JOHANNESBURG Jan 29 (Reuters) - South African lender Absa said on Tuesday its chief executive Maria Ramos, who has been at the helm for ten years, will retire at the end of February, after the firm completed its separation from Barclays PLC and relaunched its brand.
“With the separation on track and our new strategy as a standalone financial institution in place, Maria feels that this is the right time to retire,” Absa said.
René van Wyk will be appointed as interim chief executive with effect from March until a permanent appointment is made, the firm said in a statement.

NIC Group PLC has announced the appointment of Margaret Karume as the Managing Director of NIC Bank Tanzania Limited, becoming the second female to assume a CEO role in the Tanzanian banking institutions.

Akiba Commercial Bank has appointed Mr. Augustine Akowuah as its new Managing Director. His appointment takes effect from September 01, 2018.
Mr. Akowuah brings to Akiba, many years of MSME banking experience, including experience in senior management positions in Ghana, Tanzania and Nigeria. His expertise is in the areas of MSME lending, strengthening credit risk management, and operational efficiency and performance-enhancing strategies.
Mr. Akowuah holds a Masters in Business Administration in Finance from Coventry University, UK. He is an alumnus of University of Ghana, where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. Mr. Akowuah is also a certified expert in Risk Management.

SIGNING OF MoU BETWEEN OPEN UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA AND TANZANIA INSTITUTE OF BANKERS
BENKI YA DCB YATANGAZA FAIDA YA SHILINGI BILIONI 1.9 KWA MWAKA 2018
Januari 29, 2019 - Benki ya biashara ya DCB imefanikiwa kupata faida ya shilingi bilioni 1.9 katika mwaka 2018 huku ikiipiku hasara ya shilingi bilioni 6.9 iliyopatikana mwaka 2017 ambayo inawakilisha ongezeko la asilimia 463.
Benki imefanya juhudi za makusudi kuhakikisha inatoka kwenye hasara iliyopata mwaka 2017 na kurudi kwenye faida. Baadhi ya hatua zilizochukuliwa ni kupitia na kuboresha ufanisi wa mfumo wa uendeshaji biashara ambapo gharama za uendeshaji zimeshuka huku huduma mpya za kidigitali zimeanzishwa, huduma hizi zimevutia wateja wengi zaidi kufungua akaunti za amana. Juhudi zilizopelekea upatikanaji wa faida mwaka 2018;
- Mapato halisi ya riba kuimarika kutokana na utoaji mikopo katika sekta mbalimbali na kuchangia ongezeko la mikopo ghafi kutoka shilingi bilioni 88.6 mwaka 2017 hadibilioni 90.6 mwaka 2018. Mikopo ya jumla ya shilingi bilioni 65 imetolewa mwaka 2018 ambapo kati yake, shilingi bilioni 21 ni mikopo ya wajasiriamali wadogo.
- Kuboresha ufanisi katika mfumo wa uendeshaji biashara kupitia mfumo wa kidijitali huku mkazo ukiwekwa katika kuongeza amana za gharama nafuu kupitia bidhaa za amana za kidijiti na usimamizi wa mizania wenye ufanisi. Gharama za amana zimeshuka kutoka shilingi bilioni 9.8 mwaka 2017 kufikia shilingi bilioni 6.8 mwaka 2018.
- Kuongeza kasi ya ukusanyaji madeni yatokanayo na mikopo chechefu na hivyo kupunguza tengo la mikopo chechefu kutoka shilingi bilioni 4.5 hadi shilingi milioni 263.
- Kuongeza mkazo katika ufanisi wa utendaji na kuchangia upunguaji wa gharama za uendeshaji kutoka bilioni 21.2 mwaka 2017 kufikia shilingi bilioni 16.9 mwaka 2018.
