AIRTEL MONEY PARTNERS WITH GOVERNMENT ELECTRONIC PAYMENT GATEWAY (GePG) FOR PAYMENT SOLUTIONS

Dar es Salaam July 23, 2018 - Airtel Tanzania, the smartphone network has partnered with the Ministry of Finance and Planning (Government Electronic Payment Gateway) to offer instant over the phone payment solutions through Airtel Money. Airtel Money customers can now pay for various Government Institution bills at the comfort of their home such as Taxes, Fees and various charges.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam during the announcement of the GePG partnership, Airtel Marketing Director Isack Nchunda said that, “The number of Airtel Money customers has been growing day by day and thus endorsing the government agenda of financial inclusion and revenue collections. We continue to support the government on revenue collections specifically Taxes, Fees and charges by encouraging Airtel Money pay their Taxes bills instantly through the e-government system that Airtel Tanzania has been connected to’.

“The GePG payment is designed for both Airtel Money users and non-users. I take this opportunity to encourage all Tanzanians to adopt this payment system as it is safe convenient and reliable”, said Nchunda adding Airtel Tanzania is committed to continue serving customers better by increasing the number of Airtel Money agent’s network that has now reached over 55 thousands to increase services accessibility. We take pride to have extended our distribution network even further by the rolling out a robust Airtel Money Kiosk and over 300 Airtel Money franchised branches to become the biggest mobile money agent network in the country”.

Nchunda said that Airtel has been coming up with services and products that benefit our customers citing an example of the latest mega service Hakatwi MTU HAPA – Tuma Pesa Bure which allows Airtel customers to send money for free aimed at improving financial services to reach and save over 80% unbanked population in the country.

On his part, Ministry of Finance and Planning (Government Electronic Payment Gateway) official Mr. Basil S. Baligumya commended Airtel for adopting the government system for quick safe and reliable payment mode. This is a government initiative of making payment easier and transparent. I call upon Tanzanians to make use of the service as both users and non-users of Airtel Money customers can make use of the service.

He added that, GePG practices offer better delivery of services to the citizens; improve interactions with businesses and industries. Citizen are empowered and involved through access to information, better management, greater convenience, revenue growth and cost reductions. In addition, GePG brings governments closer to citizens and that today it becomes extremely convenient to get in touch with Government Services. Indeed, we are happy to see citizen service centers are located closer to them now than before.
