2018 Uber Tanzania brand ambassador,Idris Sultan
Dar es Salaam, April 20th, 2018. Uber today officially announced Idris Sultan, as its new Uber brand ambassador in Tanzania for 2018, making Idris the first Tanzanian artiste to be the face of Uber the most popular ride-hailing application in Tanzania.
The comedian, actor and radio host was unveiled during an elegant and exclusive event dubbed #IdrisnaUber that was only open to a few members of the public and media at an upscale, cocktail event held at Akemi restaurant in Dar es Salaam.
“We worked hard to make sure that we chose a relevant and exciting Uber brand ambassador in Tanzania” said Elizabeth Njeri, Marketing Manager for Uber in East Africa.
Idris Sultan is a fun and eccentric artiste who is also well respected in the art scene from comedy, acting and radio hosting.
Idris was also a great fit for Uber because he is locally recognized as a true patriot - he embodies all things Tanzanian and constantly engages with his fans on social media.
All these are qualities that we look for when partnering with brand ambassadors as they go along way in demonstrating that we care for the local needs of our riders and driver-partners in Tanzania.”
Also present at the event, Alfred Msemo; Country Manager in Tanzania, said; “ At Uber we focus on harnessing the power of our global operations to deeply connect with communities around the world. Idris was excited at being announced as the Brand Ambassador for Uber in Tanzania: “I'm very excited and honoured to be partnering with Uber, as I'm a huge fan of the way they have changed the way people move globally.
I am happy to see how Uber has ingrained itself in Dar es Salaam, I always use uberX when I go out clubbing with my friends and I am excited about the new bhajaji product; uberPOA which I can't wait to try out - check me out.
Uber is changing the lives of thousands of drivers in Dar es Salaam while providing more choices for riders, I am thrilled to be associated with such a forward thinking company.”

At the event, Idris took over the stage and entertained his fans, the media and Uber staff with a snippet from his stand up comedy. The actor and former Big Brother Africa winner left the crowd humoured and high on his jokes.
This announcement comes high on the heels after Uber recently announced a partnership with Tigo that enables Tigo customers to get free data when they use the Uber app. The first of its kind partnership in Tanzania has been beneficial to current Uber riders and driver-partners and encouraged more riders and drivers to sign up and use the Uber app.
