Local, GSM unveils 15% discounts to customers by using ATM cards
TANZANIANS have been advised to continue to adopt the cashless culture as the best way to avoid robbery during their daily purchasing of their products across the country.
The move has come following partnership between Barclays Bank and GSM Mall in encouraging customers to use ATM cards in their daily shopping with 15% discount as offer whenever their shop at GSM Malls in Dar es Salaam,
The partnership between them will be for one year that pave the way for their customers to use an opportunity of spending less.
Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Barclays Bank, Head of Cards, Philbert Casmir said that their partnership with GSM is to bring their services close their clients across the region by also encouraging them to use debit or credit cards in their daily shopping.
“This strategic partnership is an example of our continued commitment to provide our customers with cashless payment solutions which offer savings for our customers,”
“In these tough economic times, our customers are looking for ways to save more by paying less. This partnership will guarantee all our customers who shop at any of the GSM Mall stores with either their Barclays debit card or Barclays credit card to receive discounts of up to 15% based on the total amount that they spend per purchase”. He said.
He said that customers they need to carry out their cards whenever they go to shopping at the point of sale and starting making their transactions after they purchase whatever product and any amount in any mall at Msasani, Mlimani and Pugu Mall.
“At Barclays, we believe in delivering solutions that meet the need of our customers and there ever changing needs. Our customers are why we exist as a bank, and it’s therefore our duty to ensure that we offer them solutions that help them achieve their goals”.
He underscored that the bank currently has approximately 70,000 customers who are using Debit cards in their daily shopping.
Casmir added that in 2016, Barclays was awarded the VISA Agile Award which recognizes the best acquiring bank in Tanzania following remarkable achievement in using cards instead of cash.
The award showcases the bank’s commitment to providing card payment solutions for all Tanzanian’s. Casmir continued, “After winning the award in 2016, the bank took on a strategic decision to ensure that all its customers would start benefitting from its point of sale (POS) machine footprint which spans across the region of Tanzania”.
On his part, GSM Mall, Marketing Manager, Cecil Mhina said that, “We are very excited about this partnership, we believe in providing our customers with quality and affordable products that suite any lifestyle. The partnership with Barclays means that, any Barclays customer who visits GSM Mall - Msasani, GSM Mall –Pugu or our Mlimani City stores - Cortefield, BabyShop and Splash will have the opportunity to receive a discount of up to 15% whenever they pay with either their Barclays debit or Barclays credit card”.
Barclays Bank Tanzania has been operating in Tanzania for the past 10 years and currently boasts a network of 15 branches, 52 ATMs strategically located countrywide.
