ZANTEL Tanzania has launched 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services, as part of the expansion and modernisation of its network that will improve the reach and quality of voice and internet services in the country.
The telecom firm’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Benoit Janin said at the weekend that the completion of the modernisation and rollout of the widest 4G network would benefit the present and potential customers. “The launch of 4G LTE marks the completion of phase one of the network modernisation to give customers the best, low cost and uninterrupted services,” he said.
He said Zantel services has more than doubled over the course of the year covering more than 85 per cent of the population and offering unmatched access to 3G and 4G internet services by rolling out the latest generation technology across the country.
“From last Saturday, our customers are urged to ensure their network setting is selected to ‘automatic network’ and enable ‘data roaming’ to access the newly improved Zantel 3G and 4G network,” he said.
On his part, Zantel Head of Sales Mr Herbert Louis said Zantel was committed to continued improvement and expansion of its network in Tanzania. “With the launch of 4G network, Zantel will extend its outreach and market share in the country. The high speed data network and better quality network service has successfully been launched in Zanzibar,” he said.
The potential and current applications of the 4G-LTE include the amended mobile web access, IP telephony, gaming services, highdefinition mobile TV, video conferencing, 3D television, and cloud computing. He said after completing phase one of the network modernisation, the process of covering the whole country would come progressively.
He said the launch of the high speed data network would not affect costs and pricing structures to its customers over use of the services
