National Housing Corporation (NHC) and BancABC have handed over to Bank of Tanzania (BOT) 10 residential houses that will be used by staff of its newly established branch in Mtwara Region.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, NHC Director General, Nehemiah Mchechu said that the 10 houses in Shangani area are part of 50 houses that BOT had purchased. The remaining 40 houses are in Raha Leo.

“The houses focus to accommodate the demand of the general public for residential purposes, there are other 20 houses in this Shangani project that the public can take advantage of,” said Mr. Mchechu.

Speaking during the same event, BancABC Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Khalifa Zidadu said BancABC has supported Shangani project to its full completion and they are also providing the same to support Raha Leo project.

“For the past two years BancABC has been collaborating with other companies in various projects, NHC is one of our key stakeholders that we feel honoured to support in their projects that we believe will benefit the public in general.

“I urge the general public also who wish to be part of the NHC project to see us because on the other side, we also support people at individual level,” said Mr Zidadu. On his side, Central Bank Governor, Prof Benno Ndullu, said that the established BOT branch in Mtwara is at 98 per cent of its completion and would start operations in November.

“Housing is one of the key elements for development and that is why we have opened the doors to these two NHC projects in Mtwara and we want our staff to have comfortable life while taking their tasks.

“But I urge NHC to speed up finalizing the Raha Leo project and hand over all the houses that we have purchased come September so that our staff could start moving in,” he said.
