Zanzibar - EXIM Bank Tanzania has promised to join hands with a number of sports authorities in Zanzibar in supporting and developing sports sector in the Isles being a part of the bank’s plan in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
The bank made the promise recently through its Branch Manager Mr. Mwinyimkuu Said Ngalima during the heyday of a football tournament organized to discover talents of young players in Mwanakwereke District, held at Abeid Amani Karume Stadium under the bank’s sponsorship.
“With the efforts shown by the sports authorities and the government, we are joining them especially in this undertaking of going back to the grassroots to unearth and develop talents,’’ said Mr……..whose bank handed out various prizes to a group of winners in different categories including two pairs of Jerseys to the two teams that reached the finals, presents for the best players (goal scorer and goal keeper), the most talented player and best referees.
“Fulfilling our corporate social responsibility has been an essential corporate mission for Exim Bank Tanzania, and we are making efforts in a number of ways to do this. We are hoping to make a real contribution to Zanzibar society and help maintain the strong and lasting friendly relationship between Zanzibar and Exim Bank Tanzania.” He affirmed.
The final which attracted a number of people including government officials, SME’s located at Mwanakwerekwe, inhabitants and other football fans from neighbor streets led by Minister of Land President’s Office, Labour and Community Service, Mr. Haroun Ali Suleiman, ended by a 1-0 win as Feza Team emerged victorious in a fierily do-or-die clash against their counterpart Kid boys Club.
Speaking after the final whistle, Minister Haroun Ali Suleiman said the government would collaborate with corporate bodies to support the sport sector in the Isles while calling upon other banks to imitate the move by Exim bank.
“This calls for collaborative efforts on the part of all well meaning stakeholders, corporate entities and we the government to support them.’’ He added.
He advised all sports authorities in the Isles to go back to the grassroots to develop talents, adding that with such programmes, upcoming talents could be groomed.
