The turnout highlighted the fact that employment is a sector which needs to be looked at with the most priority, and the need to have such seminars is another area which needs to be stipulated.
AmCham-TZ Executive Director, Richard Miles said “While unemployment is a major problem in Tanzania, many young people find themselves waiting for a job. There are job vacancies remaining open right now, not because Tanzanians lack the skills for these positions, but because they lack the knowledge of how to go out and get them. We at the American Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania felt we could share best practices to help Tanzanian job seekers effectively compete for these positions, and our message is ‘don’t wait’ – learn how to go and get these jobs. The response to this event underscores how deeply needed these skills are.”
Ms. Jacqueline Woiso, Bank M’s Deputy CEO who were the main sponsors of the event, speaking after the seminar said “I’m very much excited, this seminar has made us feel very proud that we have supported something which has a major impact to the community especially the youth. It’s something which we will definitely continue supporting.”
The seminar provided training for job-seekers, including how to prepare a CV, how to interview, and how to use social media. The skill-building presentations were followed by a Panel Discussion made up of hiring professionals and HR managers, which included a lively question and answer period, where job seekers had an opportunity to ask direct questions to the panel and being responded.
Apart from Bank M who were the main sponsors of the event, other sponsors included Vodacom, Symbion, Pyramid Pharma, Worldwide Movers, Formula 10 Hospitality Group, Kilombero Valley Teak Co, Alistair Logistics, ImpactAfya, G4S, Kamal Group, CFAO Motors, Khangarue Media, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, MMI Tanzania, Anda African Adventure, Kazi Services, Tanzania Conference Services & Quincewood.
