The Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania Limited (DTBT) opened its newest branch in the country on Thursday last week, in a move meant to see the financial institution getting closer to its growing number of clients in the town and Shinyanga Region as a whole.
With the official inauguration of the Kahama branch, DTBT now has a total of three outlets in the Lake Zone – others are Tabora and Mwanza.
“We appreciate the overwhelming response of the people of Kahama as evident from the number of accounts opened during the few months of our operations,” the bank’s group chief executive officer Mrs Nasim Devji said.
She said DTBT will continue to open new branches in rural communities in the country – with three more planned for opening before the end of this year. In 2007, the bank had only four branches.
“We are shortly opening the second branch in Mwanza and also considering new branches in Singida, Musoma, and Kigoma,” she said.
DTBT becomes the 10th commercial bank to have branches in Kahama. Mrs Devji is optimistic that the Kahama branch will significantly contribute towards the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Shinyanga Region.
DTBT is one of the fastest growing banks in Tanzania on account of a consistent balance sheet growth and increasing branch network. The bank registered a 25 per cent growth in profit before tax in 2014. It registered a profit before tax of Sh20.09 billion in 2014 – up from Sh16.13 billion in 2013.
