Speaking at the giveaway event of the prize in Dar es Salaam, CRDB Bank Managing Director, Dr Charles Kimei, said the use of SimBanking and Fahari Huduma are progressively becoming essential instrument in reaching the financially underserved across the country.
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) statistics show that over 60 per cent of the country's population possess mobile handsets, which for Dr Kimei was a lucrative opportunity for the banking sector to capitalise to promote financial inclusion.
"The first winner and the other four were picked based on the highest number of transactions performed overtime using SimBanking," he said while calling for more citizens to make use of the technological revolution in the banking sector to improve living standards.
In the second round campaign, Mr Bayinga George Majeshi (40), Finance Manager at the Morogoro based Mzumbe University walked away with Toyota Passo.
The other winners are Winnie Samanya (Solar panel), Lilian Mngulwi (tablet), Peter Fundi and Eunice Nyanda (mobile handset each).
Currently, CRDB Bank has over two million customers, of which 1.2 million make use of SimBanking, thus the campaign is a wake-up call to make use of the cost efficient and time saving mobile technology.
