MWANZA AND ARUSHA MASTER PLANS TO BE REVISED BY SINGAPORE COOPERATION ENTERPRISE

Design of Mwanza town, Tanzania.

The Tanzanian Government has signed a deal with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and Surbana Consults after six months of negotiations for the two firms to work together in coming up with new master plans for Arusha and Mwanza.

The urban population in the two towns is growing rapidly, which has seen the rise of unplanned buildings beyond the cities’ edge. The two cities have not had their plans reviewed for the last 20-30 years. A good master plan will be to the advantage of the government, community and the investors that would like to invest in the cities now and in the future.

The two cities will be modernized, improving them aesthetically and reduce constant conflicts between local authorities and members of the public who have built shelters along public roads and hawkers. Traffic jams will also be reduced due to improved roads.

Surbana’s Managing Director for Africa, Louis Tay said that the master plan will be showcased in a city gallery with physical models and exhibition panels for the public at large.

Arusha town is regarded as the diplomatic hub and also plays a host of numerous manufacturing factories. It is closely located to some of the country’s national parks, making it also a venue for tourists that frequent the region. Mwanza, on the other hand, is the second largest city and the commercial region of Tanzania.

Surbana International Consultants specializes in Architecture, Master Planning, Coastal engineering and Infrastructure, city Management, which is just a fraction of their portfolio. Tanzania is the eighth countries the firm is doing business with in Africa.
