A renowned Lawyer –cum- Diplomat, Ambassador Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar (pictured) has been appointed the new Board of Directors of Bank of Africa Tanzania Limited.
Prior to her new appointment, Mrs. Maajar was serving as a member for Board of Directors of the bank and the appointment has also approved by the Bank of Tanzania.
According a statement issued by the Bank in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Ambassador Maajar who is a legal expert wears the shoes left behind by the late Ambassador Fulgence Kazaura who died early this year.
“Ambassador Maajar has a vast experience in both public and private sectors,” the statement said, noting that her appointment as the Board Chairperson meant a lot to the Bank of Africa Tanzania.The new board chairman ended her tour of duty as Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United States of America and non-resident ambassador to Mexico in March 2013.
“Prior to her transfer to the United States, Mwanaidi Maajar was accredited to the Court of St. James’s as Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom as well as non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Ireland, between 2006 and 2010,” the statement said.
She was also a founding Partner of Maajar, Rwechungura, Nguluma & Makani, Advocates, (“MRN&M”).
“In February 2006 MRN&M merged with another leading law firm in Tanzania, Epitome Advocates, to form REX ATTORNEYS (“REX”) in an effort to provide better legal services to their largely international clientele. Mrs. Maajar heads the Natural Resources Law Practice at REX which covers energy, mining oil & gas, one of the fastest growing practices.
Currently, she is a chairperson of the Tanzania Mozambique Centre for Foreign Relations, chair of the Vodacom Tanzania and the International Consultant for the D Group, an international consulting Group having taken on the role after the retirement of Sir. Andy Chande, a respected Tanzanian business man.
In respect of social responsibility,Mrs. Maajar is chair of the Hassan Maajar Trust (HMT) a charity established in July 2011 in memory of her late son, to help improve the learning environment in schools in Tanzania.
“ HMT’s flagship program, A Desk for Every Child, aims to ensure that every child in Tanzania has a desk,” the statement noted.
