TANZANIA WOMEN'S BANK OPEN ITS DOORS FOR WOMEN IN THE DIASPORA

Tanzanian's in the diaspora can now contribute to the country’s socio-economic development and growth by using the Tanzania Women’s Bank Limited (TWB) following a business link forged recently.

Addressing reporters over the weekend in Dar es Salaam, TWB Managing Director, Margareth Chacha, said Tanzanian women living in the United States recently invited the bank management to the country to have the bank present opportunities and services it can offer them.

“I met them in Chicago, we had a very long and fruitful meeting during which we assured them of good and competitive services,” she said noting that in turn they pledged to contribute to work with TWB.

“They also wanted to find out how women in the diaspora can benefit from investing with the bank because they feared that their funds may be misappropriated…we allayed their worries,” Chacha reassures stakeholders.

“We discussed with them how the bank can safely and cost efficiently facilitate the transfer of their funds and manage their accounts,” she said.
According to her, among the trade difficulties hampering women diaspora is the high freight and cargo transport costs.

She said they also expressed interest in building houses back home and wanted the bank to facilitate the entire process.

“By linking with TWB,” she explained “…the bank will facilitate the purchase of goods and handle the transportation logistics,” she explained saying the bank is also well positioned to handle their house construction ambitions.

Detailing, she said the bank has opened online networks that will among other things enable the diaspora conduct transactions from abroad.

“The diaspora can contribute a great deal to the country if given the required support and TWB will do just that,” Chacha said.

Since its inception, TWB has worked to financially liberate women entrepreneurs in the country and now are reaching across the borders.
Notably, to date, it has released over TZS 20 billion in loans to women entrepreneurs and the country’s youth.
