Vodacom Tanzania Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education after donating vital assistive equipment to support students with special needs in Zanzibar.
The handover ceremony, held earlier this week in Zanzibar, brought together key government officials and stakeholders in the education sector. Officiating the event was the Zanzibar Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Hon. Lela Mohamed Mussa, who received the donation on behalf of the ministry. She was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, the Permanent Secretary, parents, and students benefiting from the initiative.
Vodacom Tanzania’s Chief Executive Officer, Philip Besiimire, led the company’s delegation of senior officials who presented a range of essential learning support tools. These included wheelchairs, braille paper for visually impaired learners, and other critical items aimed at improving the learning environment for children with disabilities.
The donation was made in honour of the International Day of People with Disabilities, commemorated globally on December 3 each year. This year’s observance served as an important reminder of the role that both government and private-sector partners play in ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all children.
Hon. Lela Mohamed Mussa commended Vodacom Tanzania for its continued support and dedication to inclusive education, noting that such investments directly contribute to improving learning outcomes and empowering students with special needs.
Vodacom CEO Philip Besiimire emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to social impact, highlighting that the initiative aligns with Vodacom’s broader agenda of promoting digital and educational inclusion across the country.
The event concluded with a symbolic group photo, capturing the moment of partnership between Vodacom Tanzania and the Zanzibar Ministry of Education—an inspiring step toward building a more inclusive future for every learner.
