Absa Bank Tanzania has announced major investments in its digital banking infrastructure—particularly in card-based services—as part of its mission to expand access to affordable, reliable, and high-quality financial solutions for more Tanzanians.
Speaking yesterday in Dar es Salaam during an awards ceremony for winners of the ongoing ‘Play Your Card Rights’ campaign, Absa’s Director of Retail Banking, Ms. Ndabu Swere, said the initiative reflects the bank’s broader commitment to “Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one step at a time.”
“As Absa, we are proud of the significant investments we have made in our digital platforms, enabling customers to enjoy fast, reliable, and secure transactions. This empowers them to meet their financial goals while avoiding risks associated with carrying cash,” she noted.
Ms. Swere added that the campaign also serves as a gesture of appreciation to customers for increasing their usage of cards and digital channels, reaffirming Absa’s commitment to delivering superior service and supporting customer success.
Campaign Winners Announced
During the event, 18 weekly winners received TZS 500,000 each, while three monthly winners shared a total of TZS 18 million, as follows:
- Flora Awur – TZS 3 million
- Stella Kahwa – TZS 5 million
- Tony Mushi – TZS 10 million
Highlight: Absa Infinite Card Promotion
The bank also spotlighted its premium debit/credit product, the Absa Infinite Card, available in both Tanzanian Shillings and US Dollars, designed for high-net-worth clients seeking enhanced financial convenience and global access.
Absa’s Card Issuing Manager, Ms. Erica Mwaipopo, announced that Mr. Felician Hechei emerged as the winner of the Infinite Card promotion, earning a fully sponsored trip for two to the internationally acclaimed Absa Champagne Africa Festival in South Africa later this month.
“The Infinite Credit Card is designed for customers seeking exclusivity, security, and global accessibility,” she said. “The card provides international travel insurance, access to over 1,200 airport lounges, shopping discounts, ticket-cancellation insurance, and extended warranty protection.”
Customer Experience Testimony
Absa’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Aron Luhanga, emphasized that rewarding customers aligns with the bank’s brand promise, ‘Your Story Matters’, noting that the campaign showcases Absa Tanzania’s recognition of customers’ achievements.
One of the weekly winners, Dr. Heri Marwa, shared his experience, saying that the Absa Infinite Card has significantly enhanced his international travel convenience, enabling him to make in-flight purchases and access airport services that were previously unavailable with regular cards.
About the Campaign
The three-month campaign, which started on September 30, features:
- Six weekly winners of TZS 500,000
- Monthly winners of TZS 3 million, TZS 5 million, and TZS 10 million
- A grand-prize winner of TZS 10 million
Absa has allocated TZS 120 million in rewards for the duration of the campaign.
