NMB EARNS INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION AS "TOP EMPLOYER" IN TANZANIA FOR 2025
NMB Bank has earned international certification as Tanzania's top employer for 2025, solidifying its position as the leading employer and premier workplace in the country.
Chief Human Resources Officer, Emmanuel Akonaay described the bank's Top Employer certification by the Top Employers Institute as a monumental achievement and historic landmark in the country's human capital development efforts.
Top Employers Institute is a global HR authority, which showcases human capital industry leaders and helps them grow as employers of choice.
“This prestigious accolade reaffirms NMB Bank’s reputation as an industry leader, excelling not only in financial services but also in human capital development and employee well-being,” Mr. Akonaay noted, adding that the achievement means a lot for the whole human resources (HR) fraternity in the country.
Announcing the milestone yesterday in Dar es Salaam, he said the Top Employer accreditation principally highlights NMB’s steadfast commitment to fostering a supportive work environment that prioritizes professional growth, and inclusivity.
The Top Employer status, he added, also signifies that NMB Bank meets the highest international standards of excellence as an employer and champion of human capital development.
"At NMB Bank, we firmly believe that our people are our greatest asset, and we will continue to prioritize their growth, well-being, and inclusion to uphold our leadership position in both the financial and human resources sectors."
NMB Bank earned the prestigious international certification by excelling in six key areas, including effective employee strategies, recruitment of top talent, robust employee development programs, comprehensive talent management practices, and a steadfast commitment to staff welfare.
The recognition as a Top Employer was further strengthened by the bank's outstanding commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, which Mr. Akonaay said are essential elements of modern human resources management where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential at the workplace.
According to him, the certification places NMB Bank among an elite group of over 2,400 companies from 124 countries and regions worldwide recognized this year by the Top Employers Institute.
“These Top Employers collectively impacts the lives of more than 13 million workers globally,” Mr. Akonaay said.
For over 33 years, this Amsterdam-based authority has celebrated organizations that invest in employee development, create a supportive and inclusive culture, and foster an environment that attracts and retains the best talent.
“This year’s Top Employers are committed to fostering employee growth and well-being while enriching the world of work,” said Mr. David Plink, CEO of the Top Employers Institute in the announcement of this year’s winners.
“We are proud to celebrate these people-first leaders and their teams as the Top Employers for 2025.”
In addition to the Top Employer accreditation, Mr. Akonaay said NMB Bank has also won other local and international accolades, highlighting its reputation as a leading employer committed to enhancing employee welfare.
In 2023, the bank was named the Best Employer in Tanzania by the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE), and in 2022, it received the Best Employer in Africa Award from the Employer Branding Institute.
NMB Bank has also been recognized for its strong commitment to promoting gender equality and empowerment. In 2023, it made history by becoming the first institution in Tanzania to receive the EDGE certification, recognizing its exceptional efforts to value and advance gender equality in the workplace.
“This new recognition makes us the first local financial institution and the only lender in the region to be certified by Top Employers Institute,” Mr. Akonaay revealed.
