GEITA RC ADVISES 2024/25 GGML INTERNS TO CAPITALISE ON OPPORTUNITY

Geita Regional Commissioner, Martin Shigella, with AngloGold Ashanti's (GGML's parent company) Senior Vice President - Africa Business Unit, Terry Strong and GGML's Senior Manager Human Resources, Charles Masubi, at the launch of the GGML 2024/2025 Internship Programme.

Geita Regional Commissioner Martin Shigella has urged the 2024/25 cohort of interns at Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) to work hard, be creative, and maintain discipline.

He has encouraged the graduates to seize the opportunities available both inside and outside of the mine to further develop themselves after completing the year-long internship programme.

During his keynote speech at the official launch of this year's GGML internship program, Shigella recently made a call to action for the 40 attendees. He addressed the 2024/25 cohort of interns and 10 individuals who completed last year's program and continued with higher training at GGML.

Ten interns from last year's program have been selected to participate in the Africa Business Unit Graduate (ABU) program. This program allows them to exchange experiences with graduates from other countries, such as Ghana and Guinea, where AngloGold Ashanti, the parent company of GGML, operates mines.

Shigella said that discipline for the graduates is an important basis in any kind of foundation that will help to advance their careers.

He also said that with GGML's internal procurement turnover approaching a trillion shillings per annum, especially considering that the company is complying with the local content law which requires it to source its products here in the country, it is a good opportunity for the graduates to learn the intricacies of the company's supply chain, which may even inspire them to start their own business and join the list of many local companies that supply products to the mine.

As well as congratulating GGML for having effective plans to create opportunities for Tanzanian youth, he also congratulated the interns who had managed to break through and land the coveted places, especially considering that there were 2,800 applicants for the positions, but only 40 were selected.

Senior Manager for Human Resources, Charles Masubi, said that the ABU programme, which has taken on 10 people who successfully completed last year's internship, will enable them to get higher vocational training to accompany the skills they acquired during their studies.

"If he is an engineer, we will teach him how to draw up an agreement, how to prepare a budget, but also how to communicate properly with his colleagues," he said.
