Dar es Salaam. At least 16 micro entrepreneurs,
accessing microfinance loans from a Microfinance Institution (MFI), stand a
chance of winning a prize pool of Sh70 million, thanks to an initiative by
Citibank’s Citi Foundation.
The bank, through the foundation, is supporting
the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards, which will see Tanzanian micro
entrepreneurs pocketing a total of Sh70-million in prizes.
Citibank has
partnered with Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (Tamfi) to
manage the awards, Tamfi said in a statement yesterday.
The award, according to the statement, also
applies to micro entrepreneurs who access microfinance loans from a commercial,
community or a microfinance bank; a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society
(Sacco) or a Village Community Bank (Vicoba).
The Awards, according to the statement, seek to
promote financial inclusion and generate recognition for the extraordinary
contributions that individual micro entrepreneurs have made to the economic
sustainability of their families, their communities and the wider economy.
