FLYDUBAI INCREASES COMPETITION IN KILIMANJARO


Competition is set to increase for international flights bound for Kilimanjaro following the latest arrival of flydubai. Flydubai, the first international budget airline to serve Kilimanjaro is set to further challenge traditional carriers.

The Dubai-based low-cost carrier flydubai is set to challenge traditional airlines such as KLM, Ethiopian Airways, RwandAir, Kenya Airways, Turkish Air and Qatar Airways. Also Ethiopian operates two additional frequencies of United Airline and Lufthansa under a special agreement.

Though all airlines have their passenger niches but all in all the skyline competition of Kilimanjaro International Airport poise to change for the better of passengers.

Nevertheless, flydubai has an advantage since is the first United Arab Emirates airline to provide direct air links to Kilimanjaro. The KIA destination expanding the airline network to 12 destinations in Africa with 14 flights a week.

According to the statement released by the Dubai budget airline, the company is set to offer six flights a week to the Kilimanjaro, three of which are via a stop in Dar es Salaam.

The inaugural flight of flydubai touched down for the first time over the weekend at Kilimanjaro International Airport carrying a delegation led by Sudhir Sreedharan, the senior Vice-President, Commercial Operations (GCC, Subcontinent and Africa) for flydubai.

The delegation was met with Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Prof Makame Mbarawa upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. He said the government appreciates the efforts and decision reached by flydubai to introduce direct link between Dubai and Kilimanjaro.

"I am very glad to welcome flydubai to our ‘Gateway to Africa’s Wildlife Heritage’….no doubt this route will be a success,” said Prof Mbarawa. As part of the inaugural programme, flydubai showcased its brand new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, which had been unveiled for the first time at the Dubai Airshow in November, this year.
