The National Micro-finance bank (NMB) has handed over 206m/- to the Association of Local Authorities in Tanzania (ALAT) to facilitate the association’s 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Mayors Award. The bank will also award a tractor worthy 56m/- to a mayor who will be named as the best mayor by the AGM.
The three-day meeting is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 24 in Mara Region. According to ALAT Vice Chairman, Stephen Mhapa, the meeting will be attended by 650 participants.
“President John Magufuli is expected to grace the meeting which ought to be convened once in a year,” he said. According to him, out of 206m/- donated by NMB, 150m/- will be spent on covering costs of the three-day meeting while the remaining 56m/- will be used to purchase a tractor that will be awarded to the best mayor.
Speaking after handing over a cheque to the ALAT vice chairman, NMB Head of Commercial Department, Domina Feruzi said the sponsorship was the bank’s commitment to work together with all local government authorities countrywide.
“The bank has more than 180 branches and 600 ATM Machines countrywide that have been helping the government in revenue collection.
“About 131 district councils are connected to the banks revenue collection system and as the bank, we have been trying to improve our services because ALAT is one of our main stakeholders,” she said.
