Mr Benoit Janin, Zantel Chief Executive Officer said the plan includes the modernisation of the whole network which will be finalised by September this year. Earlier this year, Zantel launched 4G LTE in Zanzibar. This service will be rolled out in Dar es Salaam and upcountry towns.
4G LTE users can enjoy extremely fast download speeds, smoother streaming video and faster-loading websites thanks to this latest technology. “The best mobile internet services with the highest speed are now becoming available for Tanzanians.
Though we are still trying to engage with the different industry stakeholders to work on a number of customers’ entry barrier such as smartphone import tax and few other specific sector taxes”. Zantel has the largest market share in Zanzibar (above 70 percent) and an overall 5 percent of market shares countrywide in average.
“We are still growing,” he said. “My mission is to turn around the company business.
Zantel has experienced difficult times over the last two years. But we have doubled our network coverage countrywide in June to reach more than 80 per cent of the population. And with a very energetic, professional and hardworking team, we can move forward now thanks to our subscribers and shareholders’ support.”
