Tanzania is in a move to undertake a seven billion new central railway construction. A new railway line from the commercial capital Dar es Salaam to Burundi will begin in December this year and will be implemented in four years, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister Office.
The new railway line will be constructed in standard gauge from Dar es Salaam to Burundi through central regions of Mwanza and Isaka. The current ailing central railway line will continue with operation.
“The funds for the new line will be sourced from his government and development partners,” read part of the statement.
