CAREER OPPORTUNITY WITH FINANCIAL SECTOR DEEPENING TRUST - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The organisation was incorporated in the United Republic of Tanzania (Tanzania) on July 1st 2004 with an overall aim to develop a deeper financial system that can provide greater access to finance to more Tanzanians. It commenced operations in 2005.  It is supported by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Department for International Development (DFID-UKAld), Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the Government of the United Republic 01 Tanzania (GOT).

The company Intends to appoint an Executive Director who will be the overall head of the organization and will be in charge of leading the vision, mission and objectives of the organization.

Specifically, s/he should be mission focused, experienced, strategic leader with pre-existing trust-based relationships with government regulators/agencies/departments and policy-makers, extensive in Sight in the financial sector in Tanzania and experience in leading a senior management team. The Executive Director is a leader who will be able to Initiate and deepen external and internal relationships, craft a compelling organizational strategy, communicate with high-level government officials and private sector executives and deliver measurable and cost-effective results.

The contract will be for three (3) years, with extension by mutual agreement and dependent on performance.

The Executive Director role will include:
Strategic Vision and Leadership
  • Collaborate with the programme Investment Committee (PIC) of FSDT to refine and Implement the Strategic Plan while ensuring that the budget, staff and priorities are aligned with FSDT's core mission;
  • Provide Inspirational leadership and direction to all employees and ensure the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization;
  • Lead the company into the next phase of growth:
  • Provide tough leadership to strategic direction of organization;
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with PIC and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic and impact performance against staled goals;
  • In partnership with PIC, help build & diverse and inclusive Investment Committee of FSDT that is highly engaged and representative of the future director of the financial sector; and
  • Delegate decision' making authority to Director of Operations to manage FSDT daily operations, enabling Executive Director to focus attention on broader strategic issues and external relationships.


Development:                                                                                                                                                                                       
  • Ensure that the flow of funds permits FSDT to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential growth:
  • Formulate and execute comprehensive communication   and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization Build strong relationships with government agencies and other stakeholders to drive financial inclusion agenda across the market;
  • Oversee research agenda; and
  • Bring global best practices and key Financial inclusion innovations  back to FSDT's strategy/grants by participating In International conferences and engaging with industry thought leaders  on a regular basis.

Financing:
  • Oversee at the high level the annual fiscal activities of the organization; and
  • Work with PIC to ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals.


Governance:
  • Work With PIC Chair to enable the PIC to fulfill its governance functions;

    With PIC Chairperson, locus PIC attention on long-range strategic issues and Investment decisions above 2MUSD;

    Work with  PIC to get the best thinking and involvement of each PIC member and to stimulate each Board member to give his or her best; and

    Recommend Individuals to participate in PIC and Investment Sub Committee.

Advocacy:
  • Act as an advocate within the public and private sectors, en issues relevant to FSDT and the organization's constituents; and
  • Works with legislators/government and representatives of the finance sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that encourage a well working finance sector and address the issues of FSDT's constituencies.


External Relations/Stakeholder Management:
  • Engage with clients, donors and the finance sector in order to improve services and generate community involvement.   Assures community awareness of FSDT's response to community needs:
  • Serve as chief spokesperson for FSDT, assuring proper representation of the organization to the community; and
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain cooperative relationships with key constituencies I stakeholders.


Candidate is required to have the following qualifications namely:-
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts (BA), ideally with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) or related advanced degrees;
  • At least fifteen (15) to twenty (20) years of overall professional experience;
  • Deep understanding of Tanzanian political environment with respected contacts across the financial sector; Prior nonprofit experience ideal; management of a global of multisite organization preferred;
  • Significant board development, branding and fiscal management experience a must;
  • Financially savvy and politically astute leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate; keen analytic organizational and problem solving skills that support and enable sound decision making;
  • Excellent  coalition  building  skills  With an  ability  to  communicate  and work  effectively  with  a  variety  of  internal and  external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator able to achieve consensus among Individuals with differing opinions
  • Fluent in English, ability to communicate in Swahili is an advantage;
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser; and  
  • Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team


Remuneration and other benefits in the company are competitive and independently bench-marked against a range of private and public sector organizations. Starting salary is negotiable and will depend on the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant.
