Dar es Salaam, 30 April 2025 - As technology and innovation continue to transform the finance and education sectors in Tanzania, the transport sector is also beginning to adopt digital changes aimed at increasing efficiency, speed, and convenience.
As of yesterday, taxi users can sync their flight details when scheduling a ride from the airport using the new Flight Tracking service in their Bolt app. If a customer’s flight is delayed or cancelled, Bolt will automatically adjust the pick-up time or cancel the trip at no extra cost.
To use the service, customers simply tap the ‘Schedule’ button in the Bolt app, enter Julius Nyerere International Airport as the starting point, and select their destination. Then they can tap ‘Add flight details’, enter the landing date, flight number, airline, or departure city, and choose their flight. Customers also choose how many minutes after landing they’d like to be picked up, and Bolt will handle any changes automatically in case of delays or cancellations.
Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager of Bolt Tanzania and Kenya, said:
"Today, Bolt is an official ride-hailing partner of over 30 airports globally, including Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport. This means customers can travel directly from Arrivals without needing to find a separate pick-up point. With the new Flight Tracking for Scheduled Rides option, both private and business customers can sync their flight details for seamless pick-up. If a flight is delayed or cancelled, the app adjusts the ride timing automatically — with no extra charge."
This is the latest upgrade to Bolt’s Scheduled Rides service since expanding the booking window to 90 days last year. According to the company, Tanzania’s market presents unique challenges that require tailored technology.
“For example, in France and Poland, customers can schedule ski shuttles for groups during ski season. In Cyprus, minibuses are used for tourist group trips,” added Dimmy.
