NMB Chief Human Resources Officer Akonaay added that the awards together with the superb financial performance of the bank, notably its profitability, have made 2023 a very successful year for the lender.
“These awards are also a very good sign of the faith not only our customers have in our bank but also the employees whose efforts have enabled achievement of this milestone,” he noted.
“Our employees have great faith in us, they love our bank and that explains why they continue working hard to ensure we win these awards,” he added, noting that about a fortnight ago, the bank was recognised as the top national taxpayer.
“That confirms how NMB Bank works closely with the government and its institutions,” Mr Akonaay told the gathering, which included the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability), Prof Joyce Ndalichako who graced the event on behalf of Premier Kassim Majaliwa.
Mr Akonaay said that the ATE awards have greatly benefited the bank in terms of mostly motivating it to invest more in its human resource capital and putting in place a friendly working environment in line with the aspiration of the government.
According to him, NMB does not only have a huge workforce but also prioritizes issues of gender parity at the workplace. It is for that reason it has been the first entity in sub-Saharan Africa and the only financial institution in Africa to have been awarded the EDGE Certificate, he explained.
“At NMB, women comprise 48 per cent of all workers and men 52 per cent,” Mr Akonaay stated.
