29 July 2022: Mbeya - TOL Gases Limited, on 29th July 2022, launched its fourth carbon-dioxide gas project in Ikama village, Rungwe district in Mbeya region, doubling the company's capacity to produce industrial and medical grade carbon-dioxide.

The recently launched plant is the company’s second carbon-dioxide plant in Ikama village and is expected to be commissioned in December 2022. The new development will enable the company to expand its market share in the local as well as foreign markets such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi.

The plant with a total project value of 13.65 billion shillings, has an estimated lifetime of 20 years with a capacity to produce 2 tonnes per hour. Carbon-dioxide is used in various industrial and medical applications such as in production of beverages, both soft and alcoholic beverages as well as processing of food products. It is also a crucial element in production of fire fighting equipment.

Speaking during the launch, the guest of honour, Rungwe District Commissioner, Dr Vincent Anney commended the company for the new investment and assured the company of continued cooperation from the government. "As a company that has had a great contribution to the industrial and health sectors for decades, we will work closely with the company to ensure its work continues to benefit the local community and the country as a whole," said Dr. Anney.

Commenting on the new plant, Daniel Warungu, Managing Director of TOL Gases Limited which is the leading producer and supplier of industrial and medical gas said, “The carbon-dioxide gas produced by TOL Gases Limited has a great contribution in the growth of the industrial economy and overall development of the country. The launch of the new plant which is the second plant in Ikama village, is a step towards supporting the government's vision of an industrial economy through local manufacturing of goods."

Warungu also stressed that the company continues to produce other industrial and medical gases at its three existing plants located in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Mbeya. The new plant in Ikama will double the carbon-dioxide production capacity and ensure reliable supply through a diversified resource base.

“We are expecting an increase in monthly revenue by 8.2 billion shillings, which is a 42% increase in revenue from carbon-dioxide production alone. This will in turn grow our contribution to government revenue through tax payment and service charges to the local councils where we operate.", added Warungu.
